I have a ps3 and all my game are from the United States and I did a trade with a guy from the UK today for littlebig planet add ons and the WAW map packs.
I was able to download and install them just fine. But when I play LBP none of the customs are there. When I played WAW none of the map packs are recognized. Can you only psn share with people from your same region?
Is there a work around to make this work?

Thats the problem, even though the games are region free, the DLC isnt and no there is no way of circumventing this.

Also, the games are not actually region free; just look at the bottom of the spine. The PS3 is region free...that is why foreign games work. There are often 3-5 different versions of the same game for different regions; sometimes you can even get multiple platinums if you have every version.

If the PS3 was region free, then PS2 games, DVD's and Blu Rays from all regions would work, they dont.

PS2 games don't work at all on mine; maybe foreign games work if you have a foreign account on a launch model. I think blu rays from other regions work...and they had to lock down DVD; it is part of the specification; even PC DVD software is often locked.

You dont need an account to play PS2 games >.<
And no foreign PS2 games do NOT play on the PS3, ie a US PS2 game will not play on a UK PS3.
Blu Rays are region locked.
And DVD's may be locked by specification, but it dosnt take from the fact that you stated that the PS3 console itself was region free, if the console itself was region free, then it would play region restricted DVD's, regardless of specification.

I guess you are right...only the PS3 games part of the OS is unlocked.
I have only tried one foreign bluray with my system, and I just realized that it actually is a region 1 disk...even though it is from Japan...I guess they changed the regions for bluray...Japan used to be region 2. I have played several DVDs from HK on my system as well...but these do not have the "region 3" marking you would expect; and the one disk that has this marking did not play when I tried it today.
All well, another thing to hate about this DRM box.

lo i wonder when they are going to stop the "It only does everything" advertisement, as it clearly doesn't, apart from Blu Ray, the Xbox 360 does just as much and it doesn't get downgraded every few months.

Do you know what only does everything? A PC!
Do you know what can't even play a f**king MKV? The PS3.
Do you know what they advised me to use to watch MKV? Linux!
Do you know what I would like to do to the Sony management?
