Ok this is somethin that I have not been able to get an answer for.

I have done a lot of psn trades and if I do a backup will all those downloaded games still be there meaning those games from other users be in my backup? That would suck if my hdd crashes and even I you don't backup you cant save those games. So basically what I'm asking is if I do a full backup will the games I downloaded from people be within the backup? If not how can I save those games just incase something happens.

From what I understand, if you do a full backup, it should backup everything. However, I have never been able to do a full backup because the system always seems to crash somewhere around 100GB backed up...so I can't be sure.

I do know that a full backup backs up the OtherOS partition, even now that OtherOS is gone, it still backs up the OtherOS partition...so I would imagine that it backs up everything that is not specifically locked (certain gamesaves get skipped).

From what i understood and got from another forum (since nobody was able to answer my question here), you have to deactivate the accounts (account management>activation)that you downloaded the games from so you can redownload them all later after you back up your HDD. You cannot backup games you've downloaded from other people.

I answered your question, you just didn't understand it.....

I explained that you don't need to deactivate YOUR PSN account, you also dont need to deactivate your friends PSN account to do a simple reformat.

PSN account and PS3 user account are not the same, if the PSN is activated on your console, all you have to do is retype your friends PSN information and re download, this wont use another of his activations, as it is already activated, i don't think i can explain it in any easier words :(

That would suck because I haven't spoken to some of the people I have traded with in a while. So for me to tell them hey can I log on to your psn to redownload the games is not something feasible. I doubt anyone will let you redownload what you got from them unless you trade them something else. There has to be a better way that does not involve the owner.

If they don't let you re login, one of their slots will have gone to waste, you can only activate/deactivate when logged in.

Just explain the situation, most people are understanding.

Nah, dude I'm talking about PS3 user accounts. So you're saying, even after I wiped the HDD and reset my whole console to factory settings and didn't deactivate his user account, I can still get the games back?

If you are user (A) and you have downloaded a game from user (B) If u delete the user (B) from the PS3 the game wont work.

If you have user (B) to your ps3 and you dont have the PSN password you can still play the games, but you cant re-download them cause you dont have access to PSN >> PSS >> Download history.

As it is normal, people that trade games via forums they change the PSN password after the trade is complete the games/packs still works but No re-download.

If you format the HDD the PS3 users and the PSN account information are not deleted.

So does that mean I can still redownload his games without wasting a PSN game share?

Yea but 99.9% of the time most people change the passwords and dont let you back in. So even if you do a full back of your hard drive to an external to then transfer that data to your new hard drive. You will lose everything. From what I understand when you backup your ps3 hard drive it does not back up psn games and stuff. Those are things you need to re download. If thats correct then really psn trading is a gamble because if you trade today and two weeks later your drive is dead or you try to back it up and there no game info then you lose.

Yes, all you have to do is re sign in with his detail, as the console is already activated.

I dont think that my PS3 is the unique PS3 that is able to back up PSN Games and Packs.
When i changed my HDD to a larger one everything was in place when the restore was completed.

- I've said already that people change codes after the trade is done.
