My friend has been bugging me to look into getting psx to work on his ps3. I'm looking at a couple web sites now but I figure I would get better information here. So please tell me how to accomplish this task.

EDIT 1. Right now the only way to play ps1 backups or different region games is to open the ps3 to do a disc swap. there is also some ps1 homebrew that should work with a disc swap. there´s the yaroze ps1 homebrew and have also heard of an NES emulator but have never tried it.

Yes, you can install Linux on the phat PS3, though I have not tried it with any PS1 emmus because PS1 compatability is built into the PS3-OS; and I don't play PS1 games anymore anyway. If you have a 20Gb or 60GB, you can use USB extreme to run PS2 games off an external hard drive...and you can convert most PAL games to NTSC and vice-versa...but I don't think this works for PS1 games from other regions...and USB extreme compatability isn't very good.

The method is USB Loader + Swap magic + External device, this will work with 20,60 and early 80GB models and no it wont work with PS1 games
A PS1 emulator will work via Linux, but it will be slow.
So the only way of playing PS1 backups is by opening your console, in my opinion, dont do it, if you really need to play PS1 back ups, do it on a PC.
