I want to know if I buy a PS3 slim, if I will be able to rip my own Blu-Ray movies from my current collection to put on an External Hard Drive (Dual bay 1.5TB each, 3TB total) so that I can play them back on my PC (either .m2ts or .mkv) through VLC media player. I dont care so much about keeping them on my PS3, I just want to be able to watch them on my PC rather than having to constantly watch them on my PS3 (I am really picky about playing a disc over and over, I fear of scratches).
Is there a program I can load on my ps3 to rip blu-ray bit for bit? Or is the only way to get it from ripping it to .m2ts? I just want to put it on an external hard drive to watch on my PC or a friend's PC (hate having to unplug my PS3 to go to my friends just to watch Blu-Ray there).
So since I want to be able to back up my Blu-Ray discs to an external hard drive, would I be better off buying a Blu-Ray burner for my pc for $250 and then maybe getting an Xbox 360? What are the main differences between Xbox 360 and PS3 other than games? Are there any GOOD exclusives on the Xbox 360 that are must-have? I'd rather be able to play the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid games, so maybe I am still just better off going with a PS3.
P.S. I am asking this here cause if I did it on the 360 sections, I would more than likely get some fanboy response about how 360 has a much better selection of games.
P.S.S I have a PC, so any if there are any Xbox 360 games that I could also get on the PC would not influence my decision.
You could try and find a ps3 phat, which does support linux.
Here's a few charts that will show the differences though one of them is for the 20gb and 60gb ps3 versions:
The 360 is getting the next mgs game as well as FF13, but not FF13 versus. I forget about FF14. As for gotta-have-it exclusives forza 3 is the only one that comes to mind in the near future but the ps3 has GT5 so they kind of cancel each other out. The 360 has a few exclusive and timed exclusive DLC as well, such as the liberity city stories packs for GTA4, and the packs for Fallout 3 (though they will be released on the ps3 shortly).
Hope that clears things up.
EDIT: There's an error on the first chart, the ps3 supports up to 7 controllers.
