this post is related to my other post below this one--
'backup utility does not save playlists, why?'

i am bloody furious at some games copy protecting the save data, i wanna migrate my motorstorm pacific rift saves to a new ps3slim, but unless there is a patch for unlocking the saves im stuffed.

AND NO, a full system backup and restore DOES NOT restore em (or, unbelievably, user media playlists either) to another ps3.

anyone aware of this patch for this game, and where is it ?
and if it does exist, how can i apply it to my old ps3 with the saves for this game cos my blueray drive has packed up (quite common now, sony were aware of the blueray drive fault but have decided to shaft customers by only offering an 18month warranty on a machine not fit for purpose, my drive went after 20 months of light usage and everyone i know with 60gig etc ps3s have kaput bluray drives, DAMN YOU SONY, YOU ARE CON MERCHANTS)

PS3 USERS, WAKE UP, SONY ARE DEVIOUS AND WANT TO FRUSTRATE YOU AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY, DONT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT, THIS IS THE WORST AND MOST UNRELIABLE CONSOLE AROUND, JUST WAIT TILL YOUR BLUERAY DRIVE PACKS IN JUST OUTSIDE THE measly WARRANTY PERIOD, AS HAS MINE AND ALL MY FRIENDS.

then you buy a new ps3 and rotten sony wont let you copy anything of worth across, so if youve SPENT MANY MONTHS CREATING MULTIMEDIA AND MUSIC PLAYLISTS AND GAMES PROGRESS IN SOME GAMES, YOU ARE SCREWED COS YOU WILL HAVE TO START FROM SCRATCH COS STINKIN SONY WONT ALLOW YOU TO COPY EM, EVEN YOUR OWN WORK, WHY NOT SONY ? YOU ARSEHOLES.

man, i wanna throw this new ps3 slim in the trash where my 60gig ps3 now resides, but i aint gonna give sony the satisfaction.
maybe i should have paid robbin sony the 100 quid they wanted to fix the weak pathetic designed bluray drive in my 60gig, but of course thats what sony wants, they are well aware of the bluray drive weakness.
now i have a ps3slim that i CAN NOT get all my past playlists, game saves etc on. aaaaaarrrrgggghhhh

It is the game designers that choose to lock their game saves, not Sony.
PS3 failure rates are no where near as high as the 360 (so i'm told, I haven't looked into this personally).

yeah, but sony has the ultimate say.

i know 4 people with failed bluray drives (i only know 5 people with ps3s), inc the manager of the local GAME store and the manager of the local gamestation.they know there is a problem.

its just a matter of time till your expensive black slab stops reading discs, and sony knows it.

at least microsoft admitted to weak 360s and offered a 3 year warranty.

Take your console back to the store you bought it from (with your reciept). Tell them that the item was unfit for sale when you bought it, and did not fit the purpose it was bought for (ie. died after less than 2 years). If you can prove it was unfit for sale then you can claim a refund from the store up to 6 years (iirc) after you bought it by UK law.
Keep arguing, and if it was a major store (ie. Game, Gamestation, HMV etc) speak to the manager, head office, and whoever else you can kick up a stink to. Eventually i'm pretty sure you will get your refund IF you know your rights and (a) are willing to stand up for them and (b) act like an adult (ie. don't go in there shouting and swearing).

Be polite and reasonable with them and you should be ok.
Oh, and make sure you read up on stuff and know what you're talking about before you go in.

Of course, that wont help with your locked saves problem, but having your cash back should make you feel a little better.

Hmm. I made a back up of my HDD to a external USB drive. Bought a new HDD and restored the info and everything worked fine. The playlist and music and movies and gamesaves were all good.

PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

Same here.

tannymcr clearly isn't an expert. If he had done even a tiny bit of homework, he would have found that the 60GB is the best version of the PS3 in terms of capabilities, and he would have also found that it is very easy to replace the BD drive for much less than the cost of a PS3 slim. He could have saved even more money by repairing the drive, as replacement parts are readily available.

As for the saves, I have not run into any games that act like you say motorstorm acts. When I upgraded to my 500GB hard drive, everything worked fine.

Unfortunatly he is right, when i tried to back up my game saves, it wouldnt let me back up The Godfather, though this might be different in a full system back up.

Saying that, it would have been better, if the thread creater had asked for help, instead of going into an irrate rant over a game save.

It might be nice if sony created a set of standards for save files, but then you would see game devs complaining that they can't make saves that work with new features. If you think Sony gives the devs too much room, you should check out the 360...devs can do just about whatever they want to 360 customers...most users don't even mind after the treatment they get from Micro$haft.

BTW...If the game is so terrible that you don't want to play it through again, then you don't need the save. One of my friends overwrote my GTA4 100% save...and I had more fun getting it the second time than the first.

did u restore back to same ps3, cos playlists and copy protected saves like pacific rift and shift DO NOT restore back on a different ps3.this is the crux of my anger, i want my crap off my bust 60gig and onto the slim, but sony want me to spend days reconstructing my playlists, so screw sony, how dare they impose such restrictions, i paid a lot of money for ps3 and i demand they let me restore my own carefully crafted personal playlists, why would they not allow this ?.they are arseholes.

yes i agree,im not a console repair expert, why should i be,replacing the ps3 bluray drive is not for the faint hearted and i am not prepared to start buying expensive bluray replacements and going through the complicated fitting rigmarole, and then bieng left with the possibility that the bloody thing still wont work,
cos according to numerous sites this may not rectify the problem all of the time, there are numerous reasons why crappy ps3s stop reading discs.

my 60gig wont even spin an inserted disc, and that includes any disc, games, audio cds ,films,ps2/ps1 etc.

mmm,interesting.
thanx for info.i may try this for the less than 2year old 60gig (got from argos), and then even take the month old slim back to game.
then bye bye sony and kiss my arse, you wanna screw with your users, then up yours.

ive sent my rants to sony themselves at help_uk@uk.playstation.com and phoned em, and if they dont offer me a solution in one week as to my restoring of my playlists then im getting out.

Couple things;

1.) Installing a new laser is not that hard and there are dozens of youtube walkthroughs to show you how.

2.) The new lasers are only like 60 bucks iirc, you'd have to have 6 of them burn out on you before it would be cheaper to buy a new ps3.

3.) Most of the time it is the laser which is why the "crappy" ps3's stop reading disks, yes there are other reasons such as the control board for the bluray drive going and so fourth but they are MUCH less common a problem.

4.) If it dosent spin either it might be the drive motor and not the laser thats at fault, even if the laser wont read the disk it should spin once inserted; and replacing the entire bluray drive is still easily half as expensive as a new ps3. But likely would cost around the same as just getting sony to fix it.

Seams that you have your mind made up. I would definitely take the PS3 back and buy the competitions console. The competition has great customer service. They require you to purchase their X2$ accessories and upgrades but only because theirs is so much better than others. Their product never breaks down. Just like Sony, you can get online with them for free. They ban those bad customers who Cheat by modifying their console because they want to protect you. They only charge $50 a year to play on line (that keeps the little Ranting kids out of there). You would fit rite in with them. You should definitely leave the PS3 scene.

If you would like some help, we would be glad to help you. If you just want to rant, go somewhere else.

okay, some good points mixed with sony fanboyism also.

FACT
and many here will be unaware of this fact until their expensive weak ps3 dies on them---

user playlists and copy protected game saves CANNOT BE MOVED to another ps3 when the host ps3 dies, this is undisputed fact and sony themselves have confirmed this to me.even a full system backup does not do it.

i wish i had known this before i spent countless hours lovingly crafting personal playlists on my old ps3, and anybody out there right now investing hours and hours constructing playlists is wasting their time cos when their ps3 breaks they WILL LOSE ALL THEIR WORK.

this is a disgacefull state of affairs, and sony need to be brought to book for this deliberate foulup.the utter tossers, wasting my time.

anyone who thinks this is acceptable is deluded and a sony fanboy.

lol will you give it a rest already, its only a stupid playlists, i really cant understand why you are getting so irrate over it, its kinda silly, i can understand the game save aspect, but a playlist is nothing to get worked up over.

It IS acceptable because we DON'T CARE about something as trivial as freakin' song playlists. My God, you act like a Hmong guy in Laos who was secretly recruited by the US government to fight in the Vietnam War in exchange for their American protection only to be betrayed by them when they suddenly took all their soldiers and left, leaving you in the forests of Vietnam and Laos with both governments seeking to eradicate you and your people.

So yeah. Quit your bitching.

maybe not to you, but others will be using the ps3 as a multimedia centre and will have invested time in playlists.

surely you cannot deny that the logic behind not allowing saving of user playlists is baffling.it should be an expected standard option.

and copy protected game saves is just bloody mean spirited.

You dont seem to understand, its NOt Sony who restrict you copying games saves, its the companies.

Also you can copy playlists from the PS3 to PSP, so i dont see why you cant back them up.

you maybe are happy with a substandard system, but ill work towards getting it improved thanks very much.

when sony cave in and improve things, you will benefit.

yes, you are correct, but, surprise suprise, you cannot copy back the playlist to the ps3 from the psp, come on sony, why the hell are you so intent in users not backing up their own playlists.its infuriating and baffling as to why this is so.

tannymcr - I've just got off the phone to Sony. They took a bit of cajoling but they're prepared to recall ALL PS3's and provide you with a brand new one, free of charge. But only if you stop with all the pointless moaning, whinging, CAPS LOCK abuse, multiposting, crap thread titles and all out drama queen behaviour.
