Is jail breaking permanent, or is it something i can use to play solo games with and then switch on to use for purchased multiplayer games?

I think i understand that the new firmware broke jailbreaking atm just curious.

Jailbreaking your PS3 is not permanent. You can turn it off by simply restarting your PS3. As far as going online you would need to update your PS3 but once you do that you can no longer jailbreak your PS3 as the new firmware blocks the JB.
