Now that I'm up and running I'm dying to replace my 160 gig HD with 1 or 2 TB. After reading a few forums it sounds like most people were prompted to update to the new Sonyfirmware. I just updated to 3.55 so I could install the Kmeaw update - will I lose this with a new HD and have to install again?
I'm kinda confused with the whole Nand thing (someone mentioned in a forum and I'm still lost).

I think it would be safe to do the who process over and install the OFW first and install kmeaw again.

Im assuming the hard drives to be placed inside the ps3 are the laptop ones? I was thinking about doing the same as cactus11 but i wasnt to sure.
I think it's a 2.5 SATA 5400 rpm laptop hard drive and has to be a specific dimension (height and width) to fit the bay. Seems pretty easy to install and saves moving an external around. Just concerned about reflashing with Kmeaw again as I'm totally new to this. Someone mentioned Seagate as a good brand name to buy as well.
Yes any laptop drive up to 750GB will fit into the PS3 hdd bay. From reading different post the PS3 uses SATA150. Some WD Scorpio Blue drives over 500GB are having problems with stuttering when playing games back. This is because they are having trouble falling back to SATA150 speeds. The best bet is to get a drive that you can lock manually to SATA150. I have a WD Blue 750GB drive and i got stuttering on games like Uncharted and Heavy Rain. I just bought a Samsung spinpoint M7 640GB and ran the ESTOOL and lock the speed at SATA150. It is working great now with no stuttering. Hope this info helps.
Only the 9mm high drives fit inside the ps3. The larger drives as stated over 750gb, require an extra platter, so these drives end up being 12mm high, and as a result do not fit in the ps3.
You can however use an external hdd and connect via usb. It does mean usng another power socket, but at least most of your games are portable and can take them to a friends house.

Arnie, I'm assuming you mean a secondary 2.5 external in a usb 2.0 enclosure? I'm guessing it won't play copies from the external and I'd have to copy them to the main PS3HD. Does that sound about right?
