Hi
I've just recently got a ps3 slim, and after purchasing some games I came across ps3 being hacked and all.
Are there any trusted sites worth reading about this hack/mod/whatever is available? because google gives lots of crappy results of forums where people flame each other about being tru or not and what is better then what... not to mention the spam/fake issues :/
I wish to read about it to get to know if its really worth modding (or whatevet its called) and if its something complicated

Yes it works, but only on firmware 3.41 or below, if you have 3.42 or 3.50 you cannot use any of the dongles.

How long is a piece of string?
There are too many, it's up to you to choose which one you want gbx-lee linked a "uber" dongle on lightake, but whether you can flash any exploit onto it, i'm not sure. All other dongles are pretty much "identical" just minor differences like different chipset but on the who they all do the same thing.

Looks like lightake have stopped selling dongles, all of them!
well then its up to you to decide which dongle you want i'll give you a small list, but there are so many now.
P3Go http://gamebox.hk/ this is the second gen dongle I was talking about support dual boot apparently
x3max http://www.x3max.com/index.html another 2nd gen type dongle single boot though i think
psjailbreak http://psjailbreak.com/ Original dongle, but way overpriced and company never delivered on their latest promise.
ps3yes http://ps3yes.com/English/ They just released a Pro version (damn it!) These guys keep up with scene releases, other take a little longer or do not even bother.
ps3key http://www.ps3key.com/en/ Same team who made wiikey
ps3break http://www.ps3break.com/ Seems popular but they have 3 different versions of the dongle out now, latest being v1.2
These are the most popular ones I think, apart from psjailbreak due to the price tag of it, there are plenty more out there. As I said its up to you to decide which one you want, and when you have decided just go to one of the websites and click Distributors and you can find a list of sellers based on country.

i see
maaany many thanks indeed!
i'll start checking them rightaway
one last question;
do these all work the same? pls note that im not very technical-literate as in i dont understand much about electronics and stuff because some of the things i found from google freaked me out :S
so basically they all do the same thing? why do ppl say one is better then the other (apart from price/delivery duration etc)
thanks again

Most of them do essentially the same thing...some of them have more memory to support certain advanced features that (almost) no one uses, and some have extra outputs (again, for features that almost no one uses). However, there are differences in the update schedules...some of the fake clones use chips that cannot be reprogrammed at all, and some units (like the original Jailbreak Dongle) simply are not supported by their makers.

Well $ony have already blocked it in firmware 3.42+ The dongles only work on 3.41 or below.
You also have to flash the dongles with new files, you have to make sure you install teh correct one, this will depend on what chip is in the device.
For a few dongles you can only use the the files they release, so if thats the case you will want one which updates regularly.

i think i'll get the ps3key; the wiikey guys were said to be a good team (tho not updating wiikey anymore)
looks like its upgradable as there are many new updates from their on their site/twitter. And it isnt expensive like the original
is this still considered a clone? because i've found also chinese clones of this ps3key which i will obviously avoid

ps3key claim to not be a clone, but i'm no sure you'd have to ask someone who knows how the dongles work.
If you want my advice I would go for the ps3yes, this is the one I have (hence the "damn it" remark about the pro version they are about to release). Even though the dongle really requires the file they release, they keep their files updated which the latest feature which the scene release. You just have to look at their download page to see that.
The ps3yes can be flashed with the regular release of psgroove, but this will cause the dongle to lose its autoupgrade setting. So the next time you want to flash the device you ahve to open it and do a hard upgrade. But ad they are up to date I dont see a reason as to why anyone would need to do so.
If you know how to compile coding they has also released the autogupgrade coding so you can add it to any of the hexes out there so you wont need to do the hard upgrade.
Plenty of dongles to choose from, but you really want to get one that will support future features and upgrades, you dont want to be waiting for a month for them to finally release something new.
