Have a working 40gb ps3, it loads the games and plays perfect but i will not eject.
also no beep at the eject, like i stated it works and it loads games and plays it just wont eject.
I believe the last update did away with the eject beep. Have you tried ejecting the disc through the menu? (highlight disc, hit triangle and chose eject disc) If that works, your eject sensor may be dirty or broken. Try cleaning with a sightly damp cloth. Hopefully, finger funk buildup is the culprit.
You can also test the eject button by turning the system off...pressing eject should turn the system on.
If it does turn the system on, but it still does not eject the disk, you can try doing the "Fan Test"...turn the system off (even the switch in the back), then hold eject and flip the rear power switch on. After a second or two, the fan will start spinning loudly, and you can remove your finger from eject. This will blow a lot of the dust out, and may even help the disk eject in certain cases.

Sounds like you system is on it's last leg anyways, but you can try pulling the hdd, using a PC to format it, then putting it back into the PS3...this might just fix it.
Put the old hard drive in. You can not switch hard drives in the middle of a "stuck update loop." Switching hard drives does not work & the ps3 will not go into safe mode either. The only thing that works (that I've seen) is fixing the root problem and forcing the ps3 to finish the update. This loop is caused by something being unplugged from the motherboard at the time of the update (or something died). Open up the ps3 and make sure the eject button is securely fastened to it's ribbon and the ribbon appears to be in good condition & securely fastened to it's bottom. Since you were having eject button problems BEFORE the update started looping it's a good bet the eject button cable or itself is either not securely fastened, OR the button itself has died. The power/eject strip can be purchased used on ebay for about $15 or so. I myself always got stuck at about 69-70% in an update loop and it was the blue tooth board that wasn't securely fastened.

THANK YOU. the 40gb done not come whit ribons, the contacts are solder to the board. i have all ready format the hdd and place it again, no dice. i also have a 80gb that when i first got call duty MWF2 it ask me to install the up date so i did. and gess what.
it got stuck on 69% so i call sony same answer pay up, so i decided i rather pay a lawyer and sued the shit out of sony for friking up 2 ps3 whit ther crummy updates.
any way got my self a xbox 360 at a flee market (laser unit was not working) got it for
45 got a new laser for 8.00 ebay. and gess what it came moded (cool)so i have a friend whos got a tone of games, so i am cool i will get back at sony and i will see them crush.
I PROMISE I WILL NOT TAKE A SETLLEMNT, I WILL HAVE THEM PASTE IN EVERY POST AND NEWS PAPER THAT THEY WERE AT FAULT.
I still think the update problems are physical. The chipset and memory are not cooled properly in any version of the PS3. I used to think that PS3 software was unreliable crap because my system would crash frequently (so often that I would only do updates when the system was cool). However, as soon as I fixed the cooling, everything is rock solid.
It is still sony's fault for using memory that is little more than overclocked RAMBUST memory...and then cooling it with a block of rubber.
But what are they going to do? They can no more recall all these system than Microsoft can recall all the 360s that don't have HDMI. If it was a simple software fix, then they would have learned their lesson after the first round of update failures, and that would have been the last time we heard of it.
