I have never owned a xbox, but have played friends several times. I like the ps3 because it does it all, video streaming, games, movies, netflix. Ive never had problems with it. Graphics seem better on ps3, but idk.
In comparison, I like the ps3 controller better, but I believe that's just getting familiar with it, so not really a big point.
Most titles are the same, but the exclusives ones for ps3 I like, again never had an xbox so I have never played their titles, although I would like to try them, Fable looks awesome.
I hear a lot about xbox's going bad, local gamestop worker claimed he could not live without an xbox that he was on his 5th one, sorry but Im not buying a console if it goes out on me twice.
I am planning on getting a xbox in the future for exclusive titles.

Personally, I prefer the PS3. I prefer the controls...and I think most 360 users would rather have a PS3 controller given the fact that microsoft's biggest complaint about their old controller was that the left dpad and left analog stick locations are swapped. Microsoft's solution? They modified the dpad so that it kinda acts like a stick in some ways but not really. I guess there must be someone at microsoft with some terribly deformed hands; and he is their controller test subject.
One very important factor you should consider is what units your friends have...if they are all on xbox, then the xbox becomes a better choice because you can play with your "real-life" friends.
Not sure if this applies to you, but there are people buying the PS3 just for GT5 which just came out...it will probably be the biggest game of the last few years...and it is a PS3 exclusive. If you like realistic racing games, then the PS3 is the only option.
If you want to copy games, then I would go with the PS3...you can't put a 1TB drive into a 360; you can even put half that into a 360. There is currently no online play on the PS3 with jailbreaking...but the 360 isn't much better when microsoft can ban your pre-paid xbox live account and then remotely brick your console.

I have both the 360 and the PS3 and I by far like my 360 controller better. And 360 has Forza 3 and by far is the best racing game on any system currently and as far as online mine is modded and I have played online with mine alot and with backed up games. Both my consoles are modded and first had my 360 and bought the PS3 for exclusives. The 360 is easy to mod, there is no issues with if the game will work or if it wont. They have fixed the AP2.5 with the new filmware and with a jtagged 360 you can do alot more that a ps3. you can run games from your harddrive, new dashes, free DLC and alot more and with the ps3 there rlly isnt much new with it. You have to worry about issues with the game working on internal or external and if it will work at all.

Xbox 360: Halo, Forza and a lot more great exclusive titles I just forgot atm, easy to mod, cheaper than PS3, equal graphics to PS3, better controller
PS3: God of War, Resistance, Uncharted, the console looks better (in my oppinion), equal graphics to Xbox 360, free online gaming
The graphics on both consoles are equal, some tests give better results for PS3, some tests give better results for Xbox 360, depends on the game. For the exclusive titles: Xbox 360 has some great ones, PS3 has some great ones, depends on which you prefer.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

The whole thing with the PS3 and having to worry if games are going to work on internal or external and if they even play all the way through without any problems is whats really making me feel reluctant in buying it. Like the previous poster said, the backups on the xbox 360 are 100% working. I have one and its really the sh*t. What turns me on to the PS3 is the whole storing your backups on the hard drive and ftp'ing the games. I might end up just keeping my modded 360 and a jb'ed ps3, fuc* it.

The PS3 jailbreak is still rather new...the 360 hacking scene didn't start with 100% compatibility either. As for internal/external games, all the games that work seem to work from internal...there are a few that won't work from external, but it is only a matter of time on those.
The PS3 has better graphics POTENTIAL...this rarely translates to better graphics, except for PS3 exclusives which you can't do a side-by-side on. Even then, results are not always jaw-dropping...the game developers are to blame on the PS3 exclusives, and the nature of the industry as a whole is to blame for the low visual quality of the ported games.
As for games not playing through on the PS3, I have yet to see this. There are still a few games that won't do the first save or that will crash within the first minute of play, but very few (if any) that only have problems halfway through.

Thanks for the clear up. I've heard stories bout games freezing halfway but those were most likely old posts in early stages. Your right the 360 scene at first would hit bumps till they started developing better firmwares for ixtreme. I'm hoping and very confident that the ps3 scene will start developing stronger firmwares that'll prevail. I'm still hell bent on the emulator scene on ps3. A Link to the Past here I come! :D hahahahha
