sorry if this has been asked already but can,t find a thread relating to it.i've softmodded a few wiis with no problems.all have been modded with 4.1.i'm going to mod a wii for a friend soon and was wondering if its better to update and do the 4.2 guide rather than modding with the 4.1 guide again?
When softmodding for someone else I will update the console to 4.2 before beginning.
There's no real advantage of 4.2 over 4.1, but it keeps them from accidentally updating it and wiping out the softmod, at least until the next firmware comes out anyway.
I never had the need to update either, I wa son 3.2 and all games worked great through usb and dvd, but i just wanted to update and try the 4.2 guide... worked great thanks to Larrys guide you just cant go wrong, plus you dont have the worry of accidently updating

I have a wiikey and I am a satisfied user..... We are alive
While I don't know of any games that yet include the 4.2 update, I will work on the assumption that there are some out there or at least coming soon.
So long as you're sticking to games from your wii's home region there is no need to stay on firmware 4.1 if you're using a modchip. The only difference you will see between 4.1 and 4.2 as a modchip user will be the inability to play import games.
You can brickblock games to prevent them from installing updates, but some won't work. You'll need to install some homebrew and manually install the ios patches to make the games work without updating. But if you're installing homebrew anyway, then you might as well just update to 4.2, softmod and then you can play all games and all out of region games as well without worrying about a region semi-brick or something.
