I have a chipped wii...

Been working lovely for years now... However just recently loaded Ironman 2 for the wii

It asked to upgrade the software.... now my understanding of it is that as long as it is a PAl disk it is ok to upgrade.

However now I cannot load any new games at all in fact most of my old games have stopped too

Any ideas on why this is any ideas on how i can downgrade it again

many Thanx

I did the same thing (ran Iron Man 2 and it upgraded me to 4.2U)

I repaired it by installing Bannerbomb abd6a_v200.zip and re-installing IOS 249 and Hermes Cios 222/223 (you may have to restore the Trucha bug for this step).

If they ask for updates, or won't play, it's probably because the game needs an IOS that's in the update.

What games are you trying to run that don't work?
Did you downgrade, or are you still on 4.2?

My profuse apologies. My Wii is both chipped and soft modded.

I am now guessing that yours was only hard modded and you are trying to load all of your games through disc channel.

OK, since I got you in a hole I should at least try to get you out.

1)Was your Wii soft modded in any way before the Iron Man upgrade?
2)Since you would only get the System Update request from the disc channel, I'm assuming that you use discs (disc channel) and not a USB loader.
3)What error message are you getting when trying to load games?
4)What chip do you have?

Here were my symptoms:

After taking the Iron Man 2 upgrade, my Wii was upgraded to 4.2U. I was never able to load Iron Man 2 from disc (haven't tried USB yet.

USB Loader would hang on loading, BUT all older disc games still worked through my hardware mod and the disc channel.

If you had done what I stated earlier, you should be at least partway thought the entire softmodding process. You may want to continue down that path and see if you can get the games running with neoGamma or another disc based loader.

I have not heard anywhere about 4.2 knocking out a hardmod. I think that is a different issue.

"some of my older copies read ok "

I am not playing "blame the victim", but your symptom keeps changing and it's hard to get a bead on exactly what the problem is. It sounds like you have more than one issue and they need to be sorted out one by one.

Lol, thanx for the help...

Ok in an attempt to clarify, yes I have a chipped wii... you know it has been so long since I had it chipped that i am unsure what chip is actually inside... I will have to do a bit of digging to find out.

After installing ironman2 update of software took it to 4.2e

Started to realise many games would not load, initially thought it was batch of Dvd's - but then realised some of my previously working disks did not work, I have read somewhere that the 4.2e prevents US games from running on uk consoles... so thought that it may b that, however tried running a recently downloaded pal game only to find that wouldnt work either... so bit of a conundrum as to what does / doesnt work, but not many at all are working...

Luckily for me one that does is lego starwars - that my kids play...

Anyways... I do load through the original wii menu and usually would just boot them the same way any non modded wii would. However now it just cannot read the disks at all.

I followed all of your instructions and also loaded a usb loader so I can now at least load the games via the usb loader, which is a start, just a bit complicated for my 7 year old twins.

So really looking for a solution to get the standard boot method to work again - is there a way to downgrade software from 4.2e back down? Will this ghet the wii to recognise dvd-r

One other slight hitch of usb loader is that I cannot plug my hard disk in until usb laoder runs - otherwise it hangs on boot and does nothing. If I unplug hard disk and reboot usb loader insatalls and then looks for usb for 30 secs - at which point I plug in and works lovely.

So as you can see - its not simple to try and solve but i hope that i ahve given you a taster...

and thank you very much for your comments so far

By the way i am quite techie minded, have no problems hacking cable / sat / psp amongst many other things, just that I have had no need to hack wii as just hard modded so kept it nice n easy

4.2 is tricky in that way. Your only choice now is to go for a softmod.

Yes, just follow Larry's Softmod guide. With Softmodding, your wiikey becomes redundant, so you won't need it really unless you ever brick.

Yep, you can, but if you do you must be careful not to delete the wrong stuff.

right I gave up with getting the chip to work again - so soft modded and now have all my games pal / jap and ntsc all installed ionto my hard disk - much much better - 200 games at the click of a button and the menu system is beautiful - I would highly recommend.

Only got one small issue and that is the fact that a couple of games keep gettignerror messages when I install them onto my hard disk... mainly nintendo style games like mario etc... any ideas....?

What error messages do they get & when do they get them?

always error messages - tried cleaning discs to no avail... most dvd's were no problem - just thought it weird that most of those wih error messages were games like mario etc...

Game still installs - just not 100% installed - some even run - just dont know at what stage they will crash?

Is this just the usual padding that they do or a simple read error?

Hi, i have started to do the softmod guide. I have followed instructions carefully, and put everything from the SD directory to the root of the sd card. load it up and get to the installer. it says: The homebrew channel: can be installed
DVDX: can be installed
BootMii: can be installed

doesnt tell me which way to install bootmii.
- when i click continue and try to install "homebrew channel" it says the following:

Installing the Homebrew channel
Error applying haxx (-2)

FAILED (-2).

Does anyone know what may be wrong.
It says its using HackMii installer v0.5

please help
Oh - as above i have a wiikey 2 chip installed. shouldnt matter i would of thought.

cheers

Well to be honest I just followed the guide called: Homebrew_Hyrulenet
Pretty much the same as Larry's but I think a little easier.
I just went through it, and acquired the mario game ntsc, burnt to disk, and played through neogamma. loaded straight away and plays fine.
I am on 4.2e when i did the softmod.
I know i couldnt play ntsc before as i accidently upgraded to 4.2e with my wiikey 2 installed. But after doing the softmod it works fine.
Im very happy - as first time I have tried softmodding.

And by the way, 4.2 upgrade disables all kind of modchips. (check Wikipedia, it's written there either, if I don't remember wrong)

Funny I used my wiikey 1 for months on 4.2, until I switched to an USB loader. Should check your facts.
