I have an old Wii, I HAD a original wiikey in it. I think the different speeds of the backups overworked the drive. It won't play discs. I'm goin to replace the drive or drive motor. I took the wiikey off to make sure it had nothing to do w/ the wii not playin discs. I want a NEW modchip, and I'm thinking of goin with a soft mod. a budy of mine has a drivekey (?) but i don't think it'll allow the old school nes roms and such to play on homebrew. I want to play the old games because i find this as one of the best features of modding the wii. What chip do I need to go with? Thanks!

If it is just the laser that has gone on the system then you could softmod and use a USB Loader to play your games. You wouldn't even have to buy a new drive or modchip.

Take a look at the Wii softmod guide in my sig.

Thanks! that's what i needed to know. I got it all ready to go, but I don't think my hard drive is compatible (WD MyBook 1TB). The game showed up on usbloader but failed to load. I'm gonna try a 2 GB jump drive later tonight. I appreciate the help!
