can anybody help?
i have a wii with just a black screen after putting in the new game mario and sonic at the olympic winter games it said an update was needed now when turned on it has just a black screen nothing else. the console spins up the disc and ejects ok and also can be powered on with the remote but still the black screen remains.
i dont think the console has been modded as the case has never been opened it has the original sd card in the slot.
i have no knowledge on the wii and have tried to search for info if anyone can point out any useful links or give any suggestions it would be most appreciated.
i'm a xbox 360 person the wii is new t me so please be clear many thanks
What firmware were you on before it happened?
Was the Mario & Sonic game in your region?
Did you have any homebrew of any kind installed? (Bootmii, Priiloader etc)
Is your tv on the correct input?
Try unplugging the wii from the power & leave it for a while, see if that works.

thanks for your reply i dont know what fw was on it before the game is pal as is the console i dont believe there was any homebrew on allthough there could have been (if there were homebrew on it would it have been loaded to the sd card? if so could i view it through my pc?)the tv is the correct input and the console hasn't been powered up for over 2 month's the console previous to this happening played wii sports fine when this new game was put in it didn't show up on dash and had the update option showing and that is were the problem began.
1. Get an autobooting modchip, (Drivekey or Wasabi DX are good ones)
2. Get a gamecube controller & activate recovery mode on the wii. Do this by holding down all directional-pad buttons while booting. You should see the words "3.4(EUR)" in the corner of your screen.
3. Hopefully, using the modchip, you can play backup games & create so many save files & install so many channels that the wii will automatically bring you to the data management page.
4. From here you will install a hacked save file for indiana pwns into data management,
5. You will run the in-game exploit & re-install your system IOS & system menu.
This method takes a while, but your only other option is to use a backup of Nintendo Official Backup Disc. This will delete everything on your wii & give it to you the way it was when you bought it. If you choose this method you will still need a modchip.

cheers i understand pretty much.
i'm assuming the hacked save file for indiana is mmodded to return your system ios and system menu back to normal to which then i can run backups and save data as normal.
plus with having the modchip installed i can update fw on the mod upon new releases.
your help has been 1st class your a credit to the community.
If you want to stay on 3.4 you can follow my first suggested method,
OR
you can update off a Wii Fit disc or New Super Mario Bros Wii to 4.0 or 4.1 respectively.
Both methods will still require a modchip configured to autoboot.

so with the auto booting mod chip i can continue to play retails. will the gamecube controller have to be used as the original controller is still sync with the console or is it used simply to enter recovery mode. when recovery mode is entered will this reconfigure the console

No, I don't think an auto-booting modchip can run retails, you would have to obtain an iso file & patch it to autoboot. But first, we don't even know if you're actually in a brick, my suggestion would be to buy a cheap gc controller & try to activate recovery mode first. If you cannot push down on all directions on the controller, you may have to open up the controller & remove the piece of plastic that stops you from pushing all directions at once. If you do see the recovery mode, we can be certain you are in a brick, however I'm still puzzled how you bricked on only 3.4
Anyway here are the steps once you obtain a modchip & gc controller:
1. Download Wii Fit PAL 2. Patch it to autoboot using autoboot creator.exe
3. Burn the iso 4. Run recovery mode and run the game.
5. Accept the update.
Let me know when you get a gc controller and/or autobooting modchip.
I've just gotten a 2nd opinion over at Wiihacks.com forums. I have bad news for you.
It appears that at one point the wii may have been downgraded to 3.2 from a higher version e.g 4.2. When the wii is on 4.2, the update creates 'stubs', files that don't do anything apart from exist & take up space. When you downgrade to 3.2, the stubs must be erased, & here it appears they were not, & when you updated off Mario & Sonic, the wii detected the higher stubs & bricked. Where did you buy your console?the people you bought it from may have done this before you bought it.
If you are certain you wii is authentic with no software or hardware modifications whatsoever it may be possible to run my first two suggested methods.
The only way to fix this is if you have bootmii installed. Did you install bootmii? You'd better hope that if you bought it from modders that they installed it.
To tell if you have bootmii, put the bootmii files on your sd card & insert it into the wii while booting the wii.
If you do have bootmii installed, you can run WAD Manager & fix this quick
If you don't have bootmii installed, you are quite screwed, however you could
1)Send it to Nintendo 2) Buy a infectus modchip & try to re-program your NAND
One more thing it might prove handy to get a gc controller & test if your recovery mode is functional. Normally it wouldn't in this situation, but you never know, try & if you get the recovery mode it is a happy bonus!
