Our wii messed up on us over a year ago. We just turned it on one day and there was NO video output, (BLACK SCREEN but there is sound). It was not very old when this happened, or was it used very much either. It could be possible that the video settings were changed by our daughter, but I really doubt it. We did NO mods or hacking to it. It was very sensitive to power outages during storms. It seem like it quit working after a storm, but there didn't seem to be an outages or surging during that storm.

On an unmodded wii you shouldn't be able to change the video settings to anything that your TV can't handle.
