Hello,

I've been lurking for a few days, reading a few guides here and there.

The two guides I've completed successfully are larrylje's:

1. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/773505
2. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/777675

Obviously, the second one installs preloader to get backup disks to launch through the Disk Channel.

It was so arduous getting to this point that I'm now interested in using BootMii to create a backup, so that if anything goes wrong while I'm following larylje's USB loader guide, I have a fallback. Honestly, I feel pretty lucky to have gotten to this point without bricking my wii.

I downloaded HackMii from bootmii.org and placed the installer.elf file on my SD card under apps/hackmii/boot.elf then tried launching it from the HBC, whereupon i receive the following:

Quote:

This installer can NOT continue!

There is no known vulnerable IOS installed on this Wii. Please note that we will not use a fakesigned IOS due to security reasons.

I did some searching and found that i needed to reinstall IOS36.wad using WAD Manager, then rerun the HackMii, then reinstall ciosCorp or something... I'm getting very confused, and I'm not entirely sure how these steps will affect preloader and the Disk Channel booting, and god knows what else. The website I read all this on is:

http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=1...4&#entry2050184

Could anyone offer any help or direct me to a more concise and/or complete resource for someone in my position? I sure would appreciate it, thanks in advance!

Bootmii will not install if cIOSCorp is installed.

That is why I recommended to install Bootmii before performing the steps in that guide (I will add a warning to the guide after I get done answering your question to make it clear).

What you can do is use the Guide: How to Launch Backup Games From Disc Channel On 4.0 Firmware. and start at the section Step 2: Run AnyRegionChanger 1.1 M5 (Launch it using HBC).

After you downgrade to 3.2 firmware run the Hackmii installer and install Bottmii.

After you install Bootmii finish the rest of the guide as normal.

hey larry,

thanks for the reply, and all the great guides!

It might not be till next week that I can perform this, but I'll update back here when I try. But just to be clear, I dont risk bricking my wii by downgrading to 3.2 after preloader is already installed? And so after that I install bootmii by:

1. placing the installer.elf in apps/hackmii/boot.elf
2. launch boot.elf from hbc channel
3. install bootmii from this program.

would this also be the appropriate time to install dvdx, in case i ever wish to use that?

lastly, I complete all the steps outlined in your guide, like reinstalling preloader and such?

A last question, when I originally followed your guide, and got to the anyregionchanger step, I had to do it over probably 10-15 times, because for some reason the wii kept losing its connection to the servers. The exact error message scrolled by too fast for me to read the whole thing, but I definitely saw something like: "Could not contact http://...." When I finally found a way to freeze frame the TV (so I could read the complete error), the downloads finished without any errors. Is this normal? Did anyone else have this sort of trouble? If there's any way to avoid this when I'm doing these steps again, I'd like to.

Thanks for the help!

Yes the steps you outlined above is how to do it.

Downgrade to 3.2 and then install Bootmii and DVDx if you want.

Then follow the rest of the guide as normal.

I had to rerun AnyRegionChanger a few times before it actually went all the way through and downloaded everything properly. So this can happen.

alright, I'll try to do this tonight, but if I don't have time, sometime towards the end of next week will be the next time I'm in town. I'll post back with my results, in case any one else is stuck in my predicament.

Thanks again larry!
