hi everyone. ok, i used the first softmodding guide PROPERLY and EVERYTHING worked fine.
then i used the usb loader guide and got it running. it wouldn't copy games from the disc drive to my usb device so i went to the main menu and tried an original game. IT DIDNT WORK!
homebrew was working fine, as was the internet channel, but backup launcher wasn't loading back-up games.
can i simply follow the new improved gude to get homebrew, backup launcher, or do i have to reset my wii to factory settings?
how do i make my wii virgin again because i don't mind re-softmodding it!
If that doesnt work, try using a different hard drive, or try a flash memory stick.
The neogamma backup launcher also loads games off a portable hard drive. See if that works for you.
Download the WBFS manager and let that format your portable hard drive. Then try loading a game from your computer to the drive. Then hook the drive to the wii and see if you can load the game. The WBFS manager is a PC program that lets you copy Wii games from your PC to the portable drive. You can find links to it in the guide.
You don't need to do the whole thing as it is another complete set of directions for softmodding your wii via CIOSCORP (which i don't recommend doing). However, you can grab the installer file, then perform steps 1 and 2 ONLY. Step 2 will allow you to downgrade to version 3.2u (or whatever region your wii is). This will essentially strip out the soft mod stuff. Then use the wii's normal settings to upgrade to version 4.1 legitimately and that should really clean up all of the files. After that you should basically have a regular/non softmodded wii again.
You'll still have homebrew though (as long as you don't delete the channel), but that is a GOOD thing.
Hopefully once you downgrade and then upgrade to 4.1 the normal, legit way, you're normal discs will work again. If not, you might have a bad drive if it's not spinning up at all.
I agree with the bad drive comment. If you are able to go through all the softmod steps again, or if you just downgrade to 3.2 and the go back to 4.1 via the nintendo servers and you still can't load up originals it sounds like a drive issue.
This happened to me when I installed a mod chip in my first Wii.
