Hey! This site has been extremely helpful in allowing me to burn the .iso files of Wii games (ones I already own, of course) to DVD-R. My question is this. If I'm burning an NTSC .iso to disc, to play on an NTSC Wii, will my Wii brick?

Yes, I know it seems dumb, but I'm truly very concerned about bricking my Wii because I don't want to have to go through the ordeal of getting it repaired.

Is there any scenario (updates, internet connection) that would cause the console to become aware that I'm playing with a backup disc?

NTSC(U) Wii + NTSC(U) disc = safe
NTSC(J) Wii + NTSC(J) disc = safe
PAL Wii + PAL disc = safe

Any mix match of the above (example: NTSC(J) Wii + NTSC(U) disc = Possible brick).

NTSC(U)=USA
NTSC(J)=Japan
PAL=Europe

As of now there is no way Nintendo can tell if your system is modded via Internet.

If you want extra brick protection I would suggest installing Priiloader and enabling the block disc/network update hacks.

Thank you! It also appears that I need some sort of "Wii Mod Chip" to play burned .isos?

Sorry for all the amateur questions...haha.

You will need a Modchip or a Softmod to play backup disc.

If you install a softmod you don't even need to use a disc. You can use a USB HDD device to put the games on and play straight from that.

What firmware does your Wii system have?

mind you, if the wii is bought brand new, you WILL need to use a usb loader. new wiis do not allow burned discs to be read whatsoever.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .
