I've modded a few using larry's guide which all went smoothly (except one mistake I made which I was able to fix) but they were all at least a year old. Somebody I know wants to go buy one now and get me to mod it, just wondering if there's any serial he should avoid or anything? NTSC btw. Thanks.
What does the serial # start w/ on your Wii? I bought ours 2 wks. before Christmas and the serial # starts w/ LU70 and a buddy could not get it soft-modded.

As cee43ja1 said: New wii is USB loader only. All homebrew works fine, it's just that the drive cannot read burned disks. Backup games need to be played from a USB drive or an SD card.
just got my friend wii. the serial is a LU73XXXXXXX
i am guessing it has the d-32 or whatever drive.
i have a wii that i soft modded and have a few backups on. tried same backups on the newer wii(system 4.2U)all went well except dvd error code 1101 or close to that.
i know its not the gamma cause when i reboot the screen turns green and it will load originals too.
i have tried verbatims and memorex burnt@x2 or x4 dont really remember.
anyone have a good guide for a usb loader. going to go get a external usb HDD. does size matter?
thanX

I literally bought a Wii yesterday from Microcenter in Southern California. I was able to soft mod it, but it was definately a bitch im on firmware 4.2U. In a lot of the guides where they tell you to use IOS249, with mine I had to use IOS250. Still having some issues with dvd games, I am in the process of formatting and setting up a USB loader.
So far I've got TMNT Smash Up (PAL) and Sonic + Mario winter olympics (NTSC) working on dvd... Only other one I tried with Sports Resort ( didn't work green screen).
