Ive looked all around and cant find an answer!
I have a 4.2U modified WII with Neogramma r7 and play my backups fine, but Im interested in getting a USB drive.

Can I backup these burnt games to the USB drive?
meaning, without a DVD burner, only on the wii?
Or can you only backup original games?

Sorry for this simple question,
but thanks!

You can back them up using the wii exactly the same as you would with an original disk.

You can also rip them to isos on your PC using imgburn and any DVD drive then load them from there. It's up to you which way to go.

I would recommend ripping the games with your PC then transfer them to the USB Device. This option is more reliable then using the Wii DVD drive.

I am also curious if this is possible to do, but I do not have a modchip in my Wii, but I have homebrewed it and have USB Loader, etc.

I have tried to back up some burnt games directly onto my Wii, but it wont read the discs properly. I also tried using DVD Decrypter on the back-ups, but it said the discs were empty (and they certainly are not).
If I was going to rip the discs straight onto my computer, what would be the preferred method?

DVD Decrypter is only for DVD movies, not wii games. To rip backup disks all you need is imgburn in read mode. I'm not sure why your wii cant seem to copy the burned games, but that method should work fine to generate iso files from the disks.

I was only using DVD Decrypter to rip the iso from the burnt game. Which should work regularly.
I tried imgburn anyway and it did the same thing. It didn't recognize the disc whatsoever. The games are burnt onto Pioneer DVD-RW's.
Any other thoughts or ideas would be great.
I'm running 4.2U with USB Loader.

You can't copy burnt wii games to a hard drive for usb loader, because the game has been decrypted. You will first have to get a program called bunpatcher.exe. This program will convert the iso back to the format that wbfs can read. Here is a link and full instructions on how to use this program. After iso is converted back just open up wbfs manager, and use it to copy the game to your external hard drive.
