My wii is fitted with the wasabi DX chip, it plays the older backed up games, but not the newer ones, i get a black screen from the start page of the game. Is it true the newer games require IOS 38,53 or 55. i see they are downloadable, if so, how do i load them into the wii. I use Verbatim DVD-R discs and burn using imgburn 2x or 4x.
I will be very grateful for any help.

What firmware are you on?

You will either need to install them by performing the update on the game disc or use WAD manager or DOP-IOS to install them (which requires a softmod).

Go to my 4.1 softmod guide in my sig.

Download the softmod pack and extact and place the files on the SD card.

Now follow only the sections I have given below...

HBC 1.0.3 & BOOTMII INSTALL:

cIOS38_rev14:

DOP-IOS:

Thanks for the info. One question, do i have to disconnect my wasabi DX chip before starting what you've suggested, the reason i ask is the SD card is loaded exactly like you're image on you're sig, when i get to the window on the wii "Nothing is inserted in the SD card slot" & insert my SD card nothing happens. I have been over this a number of times checking everything to the letter, all the folders & wads are there and the SD card formatted to FAT32.

no need to remove the chip it might be your folder structure is not correct. Make sure also that it is not SDHC since you are in 3.1 it does not support SDHC.

Thanks for your quick reply.

The structure in the folder looks ok and its on a normal SD card not a SDHC card. Should i update higher than 3.1? if so, how's the easiest way.

Please correct me if this is wrong to get to the right window, from the wii front page i go, wii options, data management, channels then the SD tab on the top of the page. What's confusing is on your instructions it says, wii settings, data management, channels, SD card tab, wii settings on my console goes into sounds & screen etc, NO data management.

Go to Wii icon (bottom left of screen) then to data management.

The guide says go to data management. Most should be smart enough to know what the guide means.

Can any make of SD card under 2gb work on the wii or does it have to be an official nintendo card or gaming card as they call them.

Larry, I couldn't get bannerbomb to work using your guide until I upgraded to 4.1u. I tried on a 3.2 firmware and couldn't get bannerbomb to work.

pjr6521,

Try first updating to 4.1 (DON'T UPDATE OVER WIFI! IT WILL UPDATE YOU TO 4.2)

(you may have to use zelda TP to install HB first and then use waninkoko 4.1 updater)

who knows. Maybe I had some corrupted IOS's and upgrading fixed it first.

pjr6521,

Try running Waninkoko Updater 4.1 using Zelda Twilight Princess exploit. This will bring you to 4.1. Then try following Larry's guide after that. Just a thought.

I knew I would find this out after updating to 4.2. Whats wrong with 4.2? I just went online and it asked me if I wanted to update. In the words of Larry David "I took a risk". So far it has made my non-working games come back from coaster heaven. I have stacks of games that I thought were bad burns on cheap media, but they all work now. I have about 10 madworlds!

Also should I turn wii connect off?

To Larrylje

I have installed the parts of your Firmware Softmod Guide you suggested (see 2 November 2009 @ 21:09) ok, Thanks, apart from DOP-IOS, i didn't know the wii had to have an internet connection, if i connected my wii via ADSL with wireless router will it update to this 4.2 firmware automatically?

Also i have tried one of my newer backed up games & it came up with "initiating a wii system update" is ok to update.

As a general rule you NEVER want to update over wifi without first understanding what you are updating to. Just don't update over wifi at all PERIOD. If an update comes out that is needed for one reason or another, come to this forum first and see if it is "safe".

Updates from game discs are ok as long as you are updating using the same region. Don't put a PAL game in your NTSC wii and update using the disc. You will likely brick your wii.

Yes I know this, I always check with Afterdawn first, but I asked on a couple of threads about the danger of 4.2 but got no answers, so I just went ahead and updated on wifi

PJR6521
"if i connected my wii via ADSL with wireless router will it update to this 4.2 firmware automatically?"
No it will ask you do you want to update. I clicked yes and had no problems- my newer games work (even on cheapo Datawrite and Tuff Disc media) and I was having the same black screen problem as you. However looking on these forums you shouldn't update this way so look for an alternative method and firmware to be safe.
