Howdy everyone.
Sorry for the long, detailed post :(
Thanks SO MUCH for taking the time to read :)
---------------
This week, I completed my first Wii conversion (for myself). I'm working with electronics/electrics often (albeit, not this fine) 20 years+, and I did crazy amounts of research before starting.
I'm using a genuine WiiKey2 in a D2C console (no epoxy etc.), and went straight for the alt wiring pattern. Used kynar wire, and fine solder, all provided by the seller.
The conversion went 101% to plan, very clean job, nice clean solder, solid connections, nothing shorted/crossed etc.
That said, EVERY time I tried to start the Wii after that: I'd connect everything up, the red light would glow. I'd press ON, and it'd flash green, and the DVD slot would glow blue for **1sec**, then everything died. Would require all cables to be removed/reconnected to try again. SAME.
I opened it all up, checked everything again, and thought I'd retry the G connection (I believe the troublesome Eject issue?). SAME.
I read that some people get no success, need the orig. points. I did that, and finally, the machine would start, and show channels. The drive is DEAD though.
I removed it all, the whole lot, back to clean & without evidence, and installed a DriveKey instead. SAME problem as above.
What's going on?! Please help me. I swear, I've done everything right, and it's shafting me :(
There is 2 wire patterns with the wiikey2. The white sticker and the yellow sticker. The yellow sticker is the most recent and only requires 6 wire points compared to the white sticker 9 wire connection. My wiikey2 D2C was the white sticker, and when I finally turned on the power the 2 LEDs (red/blue) alternated a few times then both stop flashing and the system would be on the health warning screen from what I can remember installing it myself over a year ago.
It sounds like you shorted out something with the main IC chip that powers the drive/laser. You can buy replacement drives on a number of wiimodchip sites, some have the modchip installed I believe. So I wouldn't say everything is lost, but a costly mistake. An alternative would be to use a USBloader + USB external drive.
Did you make sure your power cables / ribbon cables to the drive were connected the second time you powered everything up? That's about all I can think of.
Sorry, I didn't mention it's a yellow sticker. I thought that just a genuine measure. I did the 6 wire alt. points mod.
If in-fact I have somehow shorted it out, what could I do about it? This wii's only been played for 1month in the last 2 years, living in its box for the rest. It'll kill me if it has to be thrown in the bin :(
