ok
i have a Wii that i bought about a year ago, i mod-chipped it at the time, and several months later softmodded it aswell, with a current guide - at that time (by larrylje for system ver 4.0e)and i istalled alot of homebrew & loaders aswell.
my mother inlaw just bought a wii , same system version, but all i want to do is allow her to be able to play backup games only, no homebrew, no loaders, etc. nice and simple.
is there a guide here (or part of a guide) i can follow to mod her system to allow her to play backups (no other software, etc.)
soo much has changed since i last looked into it, its kinda confusing at the moment.
so to recap
Virgin Wii - sys ver. 4.0e
want to be able to play backup games (as well as genuine wii and GC games), no HBC or usb loader etc.
Thank you for the correction. I was just about to add (but I could be wrong) and it seems that I am.
However, that being said, I would NEVER softmod a system for someone else unless it was within a 5 mi. Radius of where I lived.
Why? After building PCs for friends and families for over 25 years, I am tired of the expectation that I will "drop everything" and run over whenever there's a problem (regardless of fault).
I am still not convinced that softmods are 100% reliable and future proof (not that Modchips are, but my modchip installs have been 100% maintenance free).
I may do a softmod on someone's Wii, but only as a backup/adjunct to a modchip.
thanks 4 the replys. i was away all weekend and just got round t reading them now.
unfortunately the inlaws wii is new out of the box and therefor is probably running the new D3/D2-Nothing V2 drive.
and no modchip is available at this time to allow that drive to play burnt games from disc.
i have started another thread with more specific softmod vs modchip questions. as my original question in this thread is now redundant / been answered.
