Can someone help me I'm getting confused about which direction to go with modding my wii. It is a newer drive Serial# lu7272. From what I see I have 2 options. The first being the new Wode which I know still wont play backup discs or secondly swaping new drive for already modded older D2C drive. Which is the better way to go? If swapping drives is good option which chip should I go with.

I would skip buying a modchip or swapping out the Wii drive.

By the time you buy a Modchip/Wii drive replacement and media you could by a nice 500GB/1TB USB HDD and place all the games on that.

You will need to softmod of course and install a USB loader but it isn't all that hard to do.
