Hi guy's, just looking for some of your advice here please :)
Basically I'm into the final stages of softmodding my wii and now I'm getting to the part where I want to put files on a hard drive on play them off that.
I've been reading the forums here and I'm seeing a software called WBFS manager and that might be my way to go but I'd like to make sure.
I have some .iso's on my computer hard drive and I'd like to copy them to an external hard drive while leaving the external hard drive as NTFS.
Can you tell me what program I need to do this ?
Also, say I have 10 .iso's on my computer hard drive, can I convert them to wbfs format and delete the original .iso ? Or must I keep the original .iso ?
Thanks guy's :)

There's a utility on the configurable USB loader page that can do it. http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=147638
Warning though, its command line based. There is another program with a gui that can do it called Wii Backup Manager but its only for 32bit versions of windows.

be forewarned. NTFS isn't fully stable.
unless the external drive is being shared, i'd partition to a primary 32GB FAT32 and the rest to WBFS. at one point, i had a FAT32/WBFS/NTFS partitioned drive. had no problems, but i wanted to simplify the drive.

Thanks for the info guy's!
Well the reason I was going to keep it all NTFS is shortly I'll be purchasing a Seagate 320GB 2.5" USB 2.0 FreeAgent Go Portable External Hard Drive and I read somewhere that it has some sort of sleep function installed on it and some people had trouble when they formatted to wbfs as it interfered with the sleep function.
The other problem now is I'm running Windows 7 ultimate x64 so that means I can't use backup manager right ?
If I format to wbfs, is there any software I can use running windows 7 x64 as I just built a new pc and it's running x64 really nice.
Also I might leave the Seagate hard drive and go with this one >>320GB Intenso External USB 2.0 External Hard Drive
Also do you reckon the above hard drive will be compatible with the wii ?
Thanks again guy's ;)

i've had no problems with my custom drive. western digital scorpio black drive and two enclosures which worked with no problems. never had sleep problems either.
also, WBFS manager 3.0 x64 never failed me. just have to make sure it's always running as admin to be able to format the drive.

Thanks for the info, appreciated.
I might have some free time tomorrow and I'll give it a shot.
Finding the right external drives at a good price could be my main problem. I have 1 wii at the minute but my 2 other kids want a wii each for xmas so it's 3 external drives I need so I just want to make sure I get ones that are compatible and at a competitive price too.
I'll post back results when I get sorted, thanks again :)

price is always the concern. if you wanted to get one identical to my setup, it would be approximately $75 x3; that's for the $15 vantec nexstar cx enclosure and $60 320gig wd scorpio black.
you could knock off $10 for going with a 320gig scorpio blue, or $13 for a 250gig scorpio blue.
prices from current newegg.com prices.

Unfortunately newegg.com don't ship to Ireland and not any vantec enclosures on ebay uk either. I'll figure something out :/
Ok well I seem to have run into another problem when I thought I was home and hosed.....
Basically I've fully softmodded my wii, I've formatted a lacie hard drive I had to wbfs and loaded 2 games on to test before I put any more on but I'm stuck on how to install the usb loader.
I've read so many guided I think I've confused myself.
Basically I just want a simple gui so I can play games on the external drive.
Can you guy's tell me what's the latest version of neogamma and how to install it so I just point the wii control at the screen and select a game.
I'd also like to install it so the sd card is not needed in the wii all the time as there will be 3 wii's in the house.
I really appreciate the help guy's, thanks ;)
EDIT:
Sorry about this :) I forgot to mention that my homebrew channel is upside down after softmodding and it say's to reinstall the homebrew channel to fix this.
How would I re-install this ?
Cheers

first, the upside down HBC. get the latest hackmii installer from here:
http://bootmii.org/download/
unzip and place the folder in your APPS folder on the sd card. you will have to navigate the upside down HBC to the hackmii installer. when the installer is loaded, go to the homebrew channel section, uninstall and reinstall. that should fix the HBC.
second, your loader. i'd recommend for configurable usb loader. highest game and hardware compatability.
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=147638
download cfg60.dol and FIX94's forwarder wad. on your sd card, place the forwarder wad in the WAD folder. then go into the APPS folder and make a new folder labeled 'USBLoader'. place the cfg60.dol in the usbloader folder.
on the wii, run HBC and load wadmanager. install the forwarder wad, then exit.
if all is done correctly, the wii menu will have the configurable usb loader channel.

To add a little more, if you do not want to use your SD Card you will need to create 2 partitions on the USB HDD. A small partition formatted FAT32 (to add the CFG USB Loader files to) and the rest formatted WBFS for your Wii games.

yes, larry's suggestion is what i switched to long ago; i believe i was one of the first to run that setup since everyone switched strictly to FAT32 then.
should you try that route, it's best to make the FAT32 partition before you make the WBFS partition and load games. on how big the partition should be is up to you; myself personally have the maximum allocated 32gigs because i also store emulators and NAND backups of the wii's i have modded.

Hi guy's, and sorry for the delay in replyin as I've been quite unwell for the past week or so and havn't felt up to much :(
Anyway, tonight I made my first attempt at getting going but I seem to have failed.
So I have the wii soft modded fully, I fixed the homebrew as suggested by Cee43ja1 and I seem to have installed the configurable usb loader as it has it in the wii menu..... but... when I click on the 'configurable usb' option it just loads for a few seconds, then a load of 'little wii boxes' come up on the screen and it just returns back to the wii main menu.
I've tried the Usb configurable as suggested and I've installed neogamma, not sure what version but however.
So you reckon I'm doing something wrong or just usb device ain't compatible ?
First I've tried a 'USB Lacie 250 external porsche version', then after nothing happening when I click on 'USB Configurable loader I tried a usb stick 'Sandisk Cruzer 4gb but as soon as I clik on the option configurable loader it just 'loops' and goes back to the start.
Just wondering if I'm using an inocmpatible usb device or I'm doing something wrong ?
Thanks :)

Just an update on this guy's.
Basically I must have been doing something wrong as I was messing around with it today for sometime and now I can see Configurable Usb Loader in the homebrew channel. So now it does see my drive and the games on it but I can't get any games to boot.
Basically I select a game on the drive, I can then see the game options and I can hear the mario Kart music, I press A to start the game but then I just get a black screen for maybe 40 seconds and then this message >>>>>>>> An error has occurred. Press the EJECT Button, remove the Game Disc, and turn the power off. Please read the Wii Operations Manual for more information.
So I'm getting there but just can't seem to get it :(
I did see on the Configurable Usb Loader start screen something about IOS 249 being required.
Do I have to install the IOS manually or would it have been installed earlier in the modding process ?
Thanks guy's
EDIT:
I've installed wiiflow too and it's the same. I can see the games on the screen, I select one, it says 'loading please wait' and then the black screen and that message again ..... Please turn off power ect....
I'm stumpted on this one :(

if you can boot into the loader, that means you have the correct IOS installed. but even then, the IOS249 you installed could be old and outdated. i've had an instance where punch-out!! would boot fine on IOS36_rev9, but the fixes in rev10 caused the error.
http://www.mediafire.com/?0t5ic0cbaji9aoh
run that from HBC, and when selecting the base, choose IOS57, and install it to IOS249. when done, choose IOS56 as base, and install that to IOS250.
if that doesn't work, then it's time to get a bit dirty and do tweaking for the games. usually you can fix the problem by enabling the anti 002 fix. but some games are picky, so if the 002 fix doesn't work, switch the IOS to 250 instead.

Hi there and thanks very much for the reply :)
I won't have access to the wii until tomorrow afternoon as I'll be out for the rest of the night but I'll post back results, hopefully good ones when I get back at it.
In your opinion is this a regular problem or is this a rare problem to be having ? I really thought when I got it soft modded that would be that and I'd be finished but for some reason I have a sneaky feeling there could be something wrong with the wii itself, maybe something happened when I tried to hard mod it and is messed up the board somehow ?
I have roughly 20 games but I've only tried 2 and both are giving same problems.
I'll try as you suggested tomorrow and hope for the best :)
Thanks again for the help and replies :)

myself personally, i have had a 95% chance of loading with no problems whatsoever. the other 5% was resolved by either a IOS switch or enabling 002 fix. so tweaking is a fairly common problem. i should note that i have the PAL wii chess, NTSC-J tatsunoko vs capcom, and the new super mario bros wii PAL leak, and all they needed was to be forced to NTSC (my region) to be fixed.
also, the hard drive and enclosure i use is another factor. i was basically a test mule seeing that no one else was using the wd scorpio black as me, but fortunately, it has been working extremely well for the past year and a half.

A late update on this.
Basically I tried all the above and more and I just couldn't get the games to load. So after trying all mentioned I rang a local console repair shop and told the guy the situation and he said 'oh no problem just leave it in and we'll have it for you in a few day's'. He told me the cost to fix it would be ?70!! So I reluctantly took him up on it.
I left the wii in, and just yesterday I got a call from the shop to say the wii is gone beyone repain and it would be a motherboad job and the total cost would be ?180 for parts and labour so I rejected.
I now have the wii which will turn on ect.. and can access the net but just won't load games for some reason.
I'm now going to see if I can get maybe ?40-50 for scrappage on some local advert sites.
Just want to say thanks very much for all the help and it's given me a lot of knowlegde for future. I've just bought a second hand wii so I'll be having a bash at that and hopefully better results.
