Hi,

I purchased a premod D2C based WII for more than a year now. I can't be sure it truly is a D2C, but my serial number strongly suggests it is a GC2-D2C, which kinda rules (never 100% sure, but ok) out I have some other modchip inside,no ?

For a very long time, everything worked fine, when, a few weeks ago, copied DVD's were no longer accepted, original dvds still got accepted. I thought the DVD lens was dirty, but when I applied the WII softmod, I noticed that I was able to play DVD-copies.

I can't be sure about firmware updates or others, but I was able to apply the WII softmod for versions below 4.2, opening up wiibrew channel.

So this makes me wonder... what happened ? Something deactivated it or so ? It got broke ? And what can I do, preferably without opening up the console (don't have triwing screwdriver etc). I thought this modchip was undetectable and not upgradable? Or did Nintendo find some way against it ?

I read about some D2C base disc, but I didn't receive any additional dvd for modchip settings or so. Where can I find this base disc ? Purpose is finding out whether I indeed have this chip or if it got broke, or deactivated or so...

All suggestions in trying to sort this out are welcome of course...

Cooled.

Most likely one of the wires soldering the chip to the wii's drive have come loose. This happens sometimes when the solder doesn't flow right. It becomes brittle and will eventually crack.

It is also possible that the chip was connected with a socket-type device which has simply come loose.

It's also possible that the modchip simply died. It is rare but does happen from time to time.

Either way, it has nothing to do with nintendo or any updates you've done.

By far, the simplest, easiest and quickest way to fix this is to just softmod the console. There's nothing that modchips do that a softmod cant anymore.

You also have the ability to load games from a USB HDD device with a softmod. That means no more burning games our changing disc. Just load all your games to the USB HDD Device and away you go with all your games in 1 place.

Allot of Hardmod users have softmodded just for this option alone.

As for your Modchip I concur with penguin98. A connection has come lose or it has failed all together.

Many thanks to both of you for the valuable insights !
I'll just leave it to : it's broken...
Softmod indeed looks far more promising, considering the USB alternative. Now for a good SMB way of copying games from Windows environment to WII attached USB HDD and I'm all ready :-)
