D2Pro9 V2 + V4C Clip failure after almost 2 years

I have used a D2Pro9 V2 chip + V4C Clip in my Wii successfully for almost two years. However, now the Wii suddenly behaves as if the chip/clip is not installed. I have opened up the unit, checked the solder connections and tried re-seating the clip, but it still will not function. I suspect that some of the pins on the clip are worn out and not pushed out enough to make contact, but I haven't verify this. Is this a common problem with the clip? I wasn't aware of any firmware update to the Wii, but could this also be a potential cause? Can anyone recommend a troubleshooting routine, or should I just get another mod, such as a FlatMod?

I kept the modchip off of the system for a while and eventually started having problems with original discs to the point that I get the "Unable to read disc" error for everything I put in, so it seems the DVD drive went bad. Could this have been caused by the modchip?

I've worked around the failed Wii DVD drive with a softmod and an external hard drive with the USB Loader app. A BIG thanks to Larry for putting the guides together, and to all of the creators and contributors of the software used in his guides.
