So here's the short version of the story: I softmodded my Wii using the guide here on AfterDawn a little over a year ago with the 4.0U firmware. Since I hardly ever play the Wii, and I've been mostly using it for ROMs and GCN games, I haven't had any issues. But I decided to check out the Wii version of Madden 11 (since the 360 version is crap IMO), but it won't load. It shows up just fine in the menu, but just goes to a black screen when I click on it.
Now, I haven't checked to make sure the ISO is good, and it may very well be a bad rip (I verified the burn was good), but I don't think that's the problem. Either way, I'm absolutely positive that my softmod is way out of date, and I'm sure other games would be throwing up "disc update" notices, so I'd like to nip this in the bud if possible. I've done extensive searching on various boards, and I'm just a little confused on exactly what I need to do. Is there a way that I can just install some update patched IOS's and loaders (such as Priiloader) to avoid the games checking for updates, or do I need to actually update my system to 4.1 or 4.2? In either case, can anybody point me in the direction of how to do this, because all the guides I've found seem to be talking about softmodding a Virgin Wii, which I don't have.
If it helps, I have an early launch Wii with BootMii installed on boot2 and have a backup of my NAND on my computer. I also have the most recent version Homebrew Channel and I think my Wii Backup Channel was updated a few months ago when I finally got around to updating to Gamecube Backup Launcher 0.2, but I'm not 100% on that.
Thanks in advance for the advice, guys.

if you haven't updated your CIOS version lately, you can try this
1. download the CIOS installer from here>>>>> http://rapidshare.com/files/360693319/cIOSX_rev19-Installer.zip
2. Use Winrar to unzip this file
3. rename the cIOSX_rev19-Installer.dol file boot.dol put it in a new folder, call it Cios then put this folder into another folder called apps
4. put this apps folder onto a formatted SD card, insert into the Wii, open the homebrew channel.
5.on screen will be "Cios", select this, you will be asked to delete, load,or back . . . choose load.
6. custom IOS Installer 2.3 opens, ios249 is selected, press A, a disclaimer is shown, press A to continue. select base IOS version "IOS57 v5661" is selected, press A. select Custom IOS installation mode, WAD installation is selected, press A to start the install. select source device, Wii SD slot press A.
and it should instal version 19 of the Custom ios. this should allow you to run newer type games. "Is it necessary to update to 4.1 or 4.2?" not really as these were really attempts by Nintendo to stop people running homebrew on the Wii, there wasn't a lot to improve the system, I hope this helps

Made one correction to the instructions: since I didn't actually download the WAD file, just the installer, the final "WAD installation" step doesn't work. I did network installation instead, and it installed fine (I'm assuming the proper IOS installed anyway).
Anyway, the game still doesn't work, so either a)I didn't actually do anything, b)either the rip or burn is bad, or c) the game just doesn't work on a patched IOS.

Just as an update for anyone planning on playing this game (and I warn you, it's not very good), I finally got it to load using the latest NeoGamma R8.
