Ok here is the deal, I have a wii that reads no disc it throws a black screen saying an error has occurred eject disc and turn system off. I looked this up on line and most are saying it's the laser, but I have my doubts, I opened the system to inspect closer and found that when a disc is inserted the laser shows through the disc but the disc doesn't try to spin. So I was wondering what methods there are to narrow down the problem, thanks in advance.

If the disk never spins then that's the problem.

Honestly though I wouldn't even attempt fixing it if it's on firmware 4.1 or lower. I know two people who have had their disk drives in their wii's break. One just bought a whole new drive mechanism, the other just softmodded and plays her games from an external hard drive now.

Thanks for the reply, I updated it to 4.3 and was going to use the smash hack and play games from my 250gb hard drive that I use on my other wii, so do you think it's worth a try just so I can hack it?

Ah, I didnt realize you were on 4.3.

But at least you have a functional wii. Swap the drives, then install homebrew channel with smash stack. After that you can switch the drives back.

I will do that if the new drive motor don't fix it, I already have tested everything and the spindle doesn't turn easy at all, so I ordered one for $8, if that don't do it then I will swap drives and do the deed, thanks for your replies.
