I tried to play my backup version of beatles rock band last night but it would not work so i tried several other games & they seem to have stopped working, I get a screen saying "unable to read disc please check owners manual for troubleshooting " now i know every disc i have worked in the past as i have checked them & i have done nothing but do an update last week & now my system is running 4.2e, Some of my backups work so i know that the drivekey is working but im not sure why some have stopped.

Could anyone let me know if they have had the same problem & if they have had the same problem have they managed to sort it.
I have check my drivekey software/firmware & im still running v1 is there a newer version.

Thanks for any help.

Was this an Import of the game?

4.2 has some how blocked Import games from working on most Modchips.

Yes i have also read on other forums that update 4.2 disables the multi-region function of some mod chips.
You could try going back to firmware 4.1

Regards Matt.

Try doing the below steps to see if it will work.

Download this file HERE.

Extract it to a SD card formated FAT32 (select YES if it ask to overwrite).

DO NOT HAVE THE SD CARD INSERTED INTO THE WII SYSTEM AT THIS TIME!

Go to WII SETTINGS>DATA MANAGEMENT>CHANNELS>SD CARD TAB (make sure you go to CHANNEL not GAME DATA).

You will get a message saying "Nothing is inserted in the SD Card slot".

At this time insert the SD card into the Wii System.

You will get a message saying "Load Boot dol/elf?" Select YES.

This will start the Hackmii installer.

Press 1 to continue at the warning screen.

Select Continue again at the page that shows what can and can not be installed.

At the main menu go up to Install Homebrew Channel and Press A.

Follow the prompts to install HBC.

After it says success select continue again.

Now exit the installer and you should now have Homebrew Channel in your Wii menu.

You can now select the Homebrew Channel and select Gecko OS in the list. Now launch the backup game using Gecko OS.

After you are done doing this you can delete the boot.elf file from the SD card root. As well go to the private>wii>title> directory on the SD card and delete the folder named aktn.

Hopefully this will work for you.

Ok first i would check to see if your mod chip has a firmware update some mod chips have released updates that address this issue.
If the answer to that question is no then do what Larry suggested if you want to play your NTSC backups.
If you don't want to go down that route try the pal versions of the games you are trying to run and wait for your chip to release a firmware update.
Reading other forums i don't think a Wii firmware downgrade to 4.1 is advisable it may brick your Wii.
In the future don't update your Wii firmware until you know what it does to mod chips.

Regards Matt.

I have had 15 people download the files and not 1 has posted if it worked for them or not. So much for giving back to the community.

I downloaded the hack today and it crashes my wii. Like a hard crash the only way to get it to recover is pull the power.

My wii has a GC2-D2E drive. The System Menu version is 4.0U. I am using a 2GB MicroSD card.

-------------------

After doing some research it looks like the above hack only works for system menu 4.2

I have a US Wii and use a MicroSD card. So, assuming that that link is Bannerbomb, it worked just fine for me (did it recently using guide from another site).

First of all I don't have anything as low tech as an SD card those things are huge. And as I said the hack is the for the wrong version of the system menu. Mostly because it is a system menu downgrade and I just wanted the home brew channel.

I have tried the fix and when I put the SD card in I get an error message

The device inserted in the SD Card slot cannot be used

I have tried a 128mb card and a 1GB card - formated fat32 and neither work

Any ideas?

Thanks larrylje!!!! Genious!

The fix works!! I can now play my NTSC games
again on my PAL system 4.2FW with DriveKey.

I will suggest a change on the installation:

When having installed 4.2, click on the SD icon on
the channel screen. THEN insert the SD card with
the fix and follow the instructions.
If you are doing it through settings-> channels
, your will system hang (mine did).

Will try if New Mario will run this way....

Cheers!!
