Hey everyone. Today my brother was playing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (through NeoGamma R7) and suddenly the screen went black and the "error occurred" message appeared. Then he ejected the disc, turned the Wii off and stopped playing. Later, he came back to the Wii and put in the same game. He tried launching it through NeoGamma and it came up with "DVD read error 1101".

He told me what happened and then we tried the original copy (through NeoGamma) and the same error came up. So we unplugged the Wii and waited. Then we plugged it back in and tried a few games through the Disc Channel and NeoGamma and none of them could be read. As a last resort we tried Wii Sports and even that didn't work.

My Wii is on firmware version 3.3U. I have cIOSX Rev19 on Base 37 installed, BootMii installed as boot2 and NeoGamma R7 installed as a channel. I backed up my Wii's NAND about a week ago when I could definately still play games. I'm considering restoring it, but I'm not sure if I should.

I need to know if this is a hardware or software problem and why this has happened. So can someone PLEASE tell me? Cheers!

what you should do is update and install all the IOSes you're missing with dop-mii v15; you're missing a bunch of critical system IOSes. then install priiloader to block all disc and network updates.

after that, try to run the original with the regular disc channel.

but my recommendation is to ditch neogamma, and use usb loaders.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

Thankyou for your help. But could I just restore my Wii's NAND back to when it was working perfectly? And what exactly caused the Wii to stop reading discs? My Wii has been connected to the Internet but when my brother was playing our modem router was unplugged. WiiConnect24 is always off so that my Wii can't receive network system updates.

Is the better option to use Dop Mii to update the IOSes or restore my Wii's NAND back to when it was working fine (the last time I backed up my NAND was about a week ago)? Should I also tell my brother to stop playing Harry Potter (it's supposed a crap game anyway, IGN gave it a 2/10) incase that's the cause of this problem? One last thing; is this definitely a software problem?

Thankyou very much for helping me out! Cheers!!!

forget the NAND backup. that's to be used as a last resort.

if your original wii sports disc doesn't boot in the normal disc channel, then it's your dvd drive. could be dirty, could be faulty. if you haven't been using taiyo yuden, verbatim, or original discs, you stressed out the laser much more with the crappy discs.

just forget about neogamma now; you want to switch to usb loaders. you should be using dop-mii in the first place, because it keeps you up to date without installing a new system menu. don't use modmii or pimp my wii to update; they are known to cause errors on perfectly working softmods.

Okay, so are you saying it's definitely the DVD drive? I left the Wii unplugged overnight and put it sideways instead of upright and I'm yet to test it. If the laser has been excessively stressed, then is that permanent? In other words, does "stressed out" mean "damaged"? Heh, this problem is stressing me out. And should I try out DOP-Mii anyway?

I know USB Loaders are a far better option, but I'm going to have to stick with DVDs for now. I'll most likely use one in the perhaps near future though (call me stubborn if you want). Sorry for all the questions and thanks a lot for helping me out!

EDIT: I tested it and it still won't read. It seems as if the DVD drive won't spin the disc. I insert the disc and the Wii goes "ZZZZZZ" (the sound of it taking in the disc), "ZZ" (the sound after the disc has been inserted), "click" and then another one or two clicks and then nothing . The additional one or two clicks isn't normal. Usually after the first click there would be the sound of the Wii spinning the disc and then a couple of normal clicks. Also, when I eject the disc it comes out instantly. Usually I'd have to wait a couple of seconds for the disc to stop spinning, and then it would eject. One last bit of justification is that the disc will come out in the same position it was inserted - a sign that it wasn't spun. So I think that the problem is the drive not spinning the disc.

I tend to agree with cee43ja1. If the retail disc is not reading either then more then likely it is a faulty DVD drive. Either replace the drive or as cee43ja1 recommended (I second that recommendation) use a USB Loader.

The price you would pay for a new DVD Drive you could buy a 1tb/500gb USB HDD drive.

Haha, thanks everyone. I will surely replace the DVD drive and then perhaps buy a USB hard drive after. But if I get the drive replaced, will I have to re-install my modchip? And a final question; what caused the DVD drive to become faulty? If it's because of using crappy DVDs like cee43ja1 said, then you don't need to reply as I already know. I just want to know any other ways this could've happened so that I can avoid something like this occurring in the future. Cheers to everyone that contributed and a special thanks to cee43ja1.
