But I know there are other compatability lists, namely the one by Larrylje, which has been taken down. I bought the SanDisk Cruzer last night @ 8GB and it works flawlessly w/ USB Loader GX, but I decided I have enough extra cash to go the next step up, 16GB. I know the aforementioned list says it works, but I wanted to get a 2nd opinion using another list just so I can make sure, since I won't be able to get back to the store until next wknd if it in fact doesn't work as this particular list says it does.
Thanks everyone, I hope you understand the reason for my request.

No, not really. The delta in price between an 8GB + a 16GB flash drive isn't that far from a 500GB 2.5" HDD with enclosure.
Thanks for your reply. I would be willing to do that, but it looks like it doesn't work. :/ From what I can see on the list, anyway. Do you think you could point out what you're speaking of? Not only that, but there's "Deltaco" if that's what you're referring to...
There are plenty of things that work that aren't on that list.
There are a whole bunch of "cheap chinese clone" 2.5" enclosures that work that aren't called out by brand name because they don't have a brand name.
I think that you're being over conservative. You may have very valid reasons for doing so.
However, I believe that there are much more economical ($/GB) alternatives.
The list may be accurate, but it's also very outdated. For example, it lists the FreeAgent Go 120GB as compatible. This means that there is a 99% chance that, without even testing, the 250, 320, 500, 750, and 1TB work because there's a high likelihood that they use the same USB interface AND THAT'S the key to the compatibility.
Yea, I understand as far as compatability goes; you have a point. I'm just worried, that's why I'm being conservative and very careful about what I pick. Especially since I took a while to get everything working properly b/c I kept screwing up at IOS249 - that was the trickiest bit for me, b/c everyone went about explaining it in a different way. Now that I have something that works (the SanDisk 8GB), I'm exchanging it for something in a higher capacity, same manufacturer, I just don't wanna take the chance of it NOT working b/c I don't have a car and I can barely get out to the mall. I'm screwed if I come back and this time it doesn't work, yano? Then I won't have ANY games until next wknd.
i took chances on using a custom built enclosure and drive. the western digital scorpio black 2.5" drives works well, and has no sleep mode to disable out of the box.
the enclosures were the picky ones. the ones i've used were the vantec nexstar CX and SX, and the AMS venus ds2. the ds2 and CX enclosures worked without problems, but the SX failed to be detected; could have changed now since there are better cIOS and usb loaders. the only reason i tried the SX is because it has a on/off switch.
Looking at possibilities in the $40-50 USD range (approx cost of a 4GB + 8GB USB stick)
I am 99% sure that the seagate Freeadent go 2.5" works. I am 90% sure that the $8.99 2.5" USB enclosure on DX works with any HDD. Dor $50.00 you can build a 250GB 2.5" HDD that will work.
I just haven't gotten around to everything that i have in the house.
I was using the 3.5" Simpletech 1TB ($79.99 on sale) but recently changed to the 3.5" Simpletech 1TB re-drive because it had NO power switch (one less step for my 8yr. old).
Do you have any 2.5" or 3.5 ext HDD lying around the house?
just a crazy question is there a way to get an ipod to work? i have an old ipod video that i dont use n i thought well thats 30gb compared to my 8gb sandisk drive. so is there a way to make that work?
