Just got my fusion in the mail and Im having problems. I followed the instructions to the T and the dvd drive seems to not exist when the fusion is hooked up. By that I mean as soon as I go to the disc channel, it says to please enter disc immediately without even the spinning disc graphics. Also the disc eject wont work when there is a cd in the drive but it will power on the wii. When I remove the fusion and setup like it is from the store everything works the way it should. My key setting is down up up up and I have a USA version. Please help.
Also, sd card reader is not working with fusion the one fusion comes with and is working w/o fusion.

I just realized something. Is it possible that my newly purchased wii is a version which is not yet supported? How would I go about determining this. I thought that fusion is supporting all versions as of now.

It is possible that there is yet another new drive circulating. Most modchips stopped updating ages ago since softmodding is so much cheaper and easier, making hardmods somewhat irrelevant.
Also, if you have a newly purchased wii then it won't be able to read games from disks even with the modchip, which it says in fine print on the wiikey website.

I dont understand this. I thought the fusion was a new version released recently. So what can I do if I want to play backups on my new wii?

The only way you can play backups with a wiikey fusion on a new wii (with a D3-2 or a D4 drive) is to load them onto an SD card and play them from there. It does support gamecube games but if your wii is on firmware 4.2 or later you won't be able to play out-of-region wii or gamecube games.
If you softmod then you can play wii games (but not gamecube games) from any region from either the SD cards or any standard USB hard drive or flash drive.
And the wiikey fusion was announced ages ago, but by the time it was released about 6 months ago nearly all of it's features were already available for free on USB loaders.

I have 4.3 but even still, my sd card is not working and neither is the dvd drive with the fusion installed. I see now I made a mistake by buying fusion since it doesnt appear to be working and I guess I didnt even need it. So if I want to use a usb hard drive I can play backup wii games but not gamecube games. Is this right? My google searches had come up with a fusion release announcement as one of the first links and on their site it says that it works on all drives except for two so I thought I would be fine.

Would downgrading the firmware be an option or is it the drive that is causibg the problem? What if I used an older version drive on my newer wii? Just trying to understand all possible options.

I doubt the firmware version has anything to do with your problem. (Besides which, to downgrade the firmware you would have to do most of the softmod it anyway. And once it's softmodded then downgrading isn't necessary) Downgrading is also very risky, its very easy to brick the wii in downgrade attempts.
I'm pretty sure the issue here is either an incompatible drive or a defective wiikey. I really can't say for sure. if the problem is with the drive then replacing it with an older drive model would work. If the problem is with the modchip then replacing the drive would be a waste of time and money.

A USB loader can play nearly all wii games. There's a compatibility list here http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Loader_v1.x_Game_Compatibility
Backup gamecube games cannot be loaded in this way however. They can be run on softmodded wii's but only from disk and not on wii's with newer drives. The issue here is that the newer models of wii drives physically cannot read burned disks of any type.
Swapping the drive would fix this problem, but really how many gamecube games are you intending to play?

Without a modchip, how would the older drives be able to read backups (i.e. softmod)?

A softmodded wii with a compatible drive can load games through either a USB loader (like the configurable USB loader) or disk launcher (such as neogamma). Both are apps that you either run from the homebrew channel or can be installed as their own channels.
Now obviously if you have a newer wii drive that can't read burned DVDs then a disk loader won't work, but USB loaders still will.
As for how to softmod, just pick a 4.3 softmod guide and follow it all the way through. I personally like this one, but there are plenty out there. http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901

In order to softmod a new wii you have to play ssbb or lego indiana jones according to this guide in chapter 1. http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs...tmod-guide.html The other options for installing hackmii wont work because the wii has never been tampered with. My question is do i have any other options that doesnt require me to go buy or rent ssbb or lego indiana jones??

NO. if you don't have either game, go buy it. and while at it, get an external drive to use for configurable usb loader; it's better to have a drive solely for the wii than using one for all.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

actually the wiikey fusion works on all drives except two. You are right about that, you really need to check if you installed the fusion correctly as well as the ribbon cables. If anything is damaged during shipping etc. Make sure all cables are tucked snuggly into the brown holders etc. After all this is set and secured. Turn on your wii and power it off after. After this try to use their update disk or sd card. Update to the latest wii fusion firmware. If it still isnt reading your games keep power on and off. Sometimes it takes awhile before it detects and reads.
btw, it would help if we knew more specs about your wii.
