i have a modchipped and softmodded wii (all softmods r up-to-date)
i recently bought a western digital elements 1 terrabyte external HDD.
this drive works great with Mediaplayer CE (launched thru homebrew channel), i have about 100 avi's that all work great.
now i want to be able to make the drive compatible with USB Loader GX (latest version)
the latest version of this is supposed to be able to load games from WBFS, FAT, & NTFS drives.
i put a game ISO onto the drive and even though the program boots and detects the drive great. its shows 0 games.
am i correct to assume a 1Tb drive is too big for the USB Loader GX program ?
my second idea was to partition the drive into a 750gb partition and a 250gb partition. As i have more movies than games, and i dont particularly care if the game partition then formatted into NTFS,FAT or WBFS.
but i cant get Gparted to work off a 4GB USB Stick. its just wont boot.
am i missing somthing or is there another way or progam i can use to get this working?

Nope the drive is fine
Get Wii Backup manager r4 or r5, use this to add the games to the drive when formatted to fat32 (it creates a WBFS folder and wbfs files to put in it)
Works fine on my set up - crappy connector on the drive though so be careful with it

ok, had a little bit of a problem with the drive formats.....
I D/L Wii Backup Manager (latest version), installed & ran.
chose to format drive from ntfs (default) to Fat32.
the program said it worked, but when i went to my computer, and right clicked properties for the drive it still said NTFS. tried a few more times even running the program as Admin... No luck.
so i got windows to format it to exFAT (only had NTFS or exFAT as options).
i then went back to Wii Backup Manager, selected the drive (detected correctly as exFAT & correct size), loaded my ISO's, and then clicked transfer....
now here is where i m half lost the Tutorial i found said to click transfer...drive 1....which would save it as ISO to the drive.
i chose transfer...WBFS.. which then brought up a choose folder diaglog box, i navigated till i found the Drive and chose the WBFS folder that Wii Backup Manager made on the drive.
still waiting for it to finish transfering.
fingers crossed it works and USB Loader GX will detect the games and MPlayer CE will still play the AVI's
will keep you guys posted :-)

well no good.
both MPlayer CE and USB Loader GX DO NOT like exFAT.
Usb Loader GX, comes up with error box saying no FAT32/NTFS or WBFS partition found.
and MPlayer CE only wants to look for Fat32 or NTFS.
Maybe i'll have to try NTFS and just put up with ISO's, since Wii Backup Manager and windows wont format the drive to FAT32.

When the drive was formatted by backup manager did you do a power cycle, the drive should be removed from the computer and then reinserted.
If this still does not work get swissknife (free partition program) and delete the partition and then create, again power cycle the drive before adding any files to it.
In backup manager go to options at the top, make sure - keep game partition only is selected, Next tab (Fat32/ntfs) Ensure WBFS split is set to 4GB if using Fat32.
Then add files push button and find them on your drive
Select drive and from the drop down select the Wii drive (will ask to add a WBFS folder if the drive does not have one)
highlight (tick) files to be transfered
Drop down transfer and select drive 1
Wait
Should now be on the drive ready to work

well i tried swissknife, but it only wanted to repartition upto 430Gb, even though it detected the whole drive b4 removeing the partition, it though 430gb was the whole drive afterwards
so i got Acronis Ture Image WD edition. it repartitioned the whole drive as 931Gb and in FAT32.
followed your directions, loaded games on the HDD.
hooked it up to the wii, booted up USB Loader GX and nothing. went into settings, then into game load. it recognised the HDD and FAT 1 and 931GB, i scrolled down and change the setting to include folders (or maybe it was subfolders) and still nothing.
maybe i'll try configurable USB loader .

configurable loader works.
and i found out the reason y USB loader gx wasnt working is because the forwarder was still going to the OLD GX directory. so once i fixed that up so it would load out of the new directory, USB loader GX worked aswell.
all in all the hardest part was getting the 1TB drive into FAT32. swissknife just does not want to recognise drives this big apparently. so if anyone else has a WD drive, i'd definitely recommend the Acronis True Image WD edition (free download from pofficial site just google it)

I am using your tutorial to install a new Fat32 1TB WD Passport.. i have had the same results as you up to this point.. but here is where I am stuck.
How did you point the forwarder from the old GX directory to the new HDD?
Thank you for all your advice
