I have a Wii hard-modded with a WiiKey and Homebrew Channel via twilight-hack (1.9s firmware?), and I'm kind of lost with the Wii modding scene right now due to not keeping up with it. I really just want to be able to play original copies of games. So if I was to play a recent game, would a update cause my system not to work or something? If so, is there anyway to correct the issue.

You can play whatever you want. It won't hurt the modchip at all. It may remove the homebrew channel, but you can restore that later if you want.

You could also install Priiloader and use it to block disc updates.

I was behind too, I followed larrys guide to softmod my wiikey chipped wii. Everyone is going towards softmod and wiikey original seems dead. I figured go soft and try to keep up lol. Wiikey is still in, his guide works with chipped as well.
