I did something stupid. I took my 350GB HDD that had like 50 games on it up to my work and plugged it into the mac up there to grab a few files to bring home on my pc. The files pulled off fine, but I got an error reading when I plugged the drive in. Windows 7 said it wanted to check for errors and/or search for repair bad sectors.
I don't have any other backup for these games. I tried copying the games off - that doesn't work (because they are wbfs?). I've tried using WiiBackupManager to create ISO files from the wbfs files, but none of them are successful. Since this is my first time to try to move these wbfs files from the drive, I'm not sure if it's normal to have problems with this (since they are technically formatted different).
Any ideas?
I thought about taking the drive back up to work and seeing if I could pull them off on the mac, but I'm not sure if there is a wiibackup manager for OSX or not.

does windows ask you to format your drive when you plug in the external? if it does, then you need WBFS manager to read it.

if not, then you have a FAT32/NTFS formatted drive, which it seems since you have .wbfs files. just drag the .wbfs files to your computer; those are the games itself.

but you should have the original discs in your possession anyways in case anything happens to the drive.

I have a FAT32 drive... but it just hangs when I try to copy any of the wbfs files from the drive.

When plug it in, Windows asks me if I want to scan the drive and repair any bad sectors. I've avoided telling it yes because "repair" probably means block them off so the drive doesn't use them. I guess for my last option I'll click 'ok' and see how many of the games it ruins.

usually it means that the drive was improperly unplugged. i've had times where my SD card was popping up the message. after the scan, nothing was wrong.

but always take caution. your drive may be failing and really does have bad sectors.

I think it does... the Wii won't read it any more. The Windows 7 disk check progress bar has been stuck at the same pixel for most of the afternoon.... I'll keep waiting, though.

if it doesn't repair, then the drive is probably damaged. a full format may revive it, but i'd only do that after you have a new drive in hand.

time to whip out the original discs and rerip them in usb loader.
