Hello,

I gave my neice my Wii around 2 and a half years ago. I installed a Solderless D2Pro ModChip and was playing my backups within minutes after burning onto a DVD.

Now things have probably moved as it has been over 2 years. I have the Wii menu version 3.3U and just flashed my D2Pro to version 1.8.

I've tried playing New Super Mario Brothers and it does not work. What do I need to do to get this working please?

Thank You

Ste

It's either one of the following:

Either you haven't updated your modchip to 1.8, in which case you should get the update disc from here: http://www.d2pro.com/resources.html

Or, the game needs the IOS it needs to run, this is normally installed during a system update. Normally, you could install this with softmods, but since you don't have any, your only choice would be to let the game update your console, don't worry, the game only has a 4.1 update, it's completely safe for modchips.

But in my opinion, I'd leave updating as a last resort, whatever you do don't update to 4.2 or 4.3, both updates affect modchips very badly.

hi thanks for that.

Is there a way I can manually update to 4.1 to play my backups, I don't want to take the risk updating to realise that it updated to 4.2/3. If it does will my console be bricked?

Also I have read about all this scrubbing business, but is that for people with no hardchips and running homebrew channels only?

You can rest assured that 4.2 & 4.3 do not brick wii consoles (1 in 1000 chance or 4.2 failing), however your modchip does lose it's multi-region capability, meaning you can only play games from your region. It has also been tested & confirmed that New Super Mario Bros Wii only contains a 4.1 update, which is completely safe.

Personally, I have never scrubbed an ISO, so I know nothing about it, but I should think that they work with hardmods, it's only if you modify the internal content of the ISO (Such as Character Data) when you need softmods.

cheers mate, I will try the backup later tonight and report back how it went. Hopefully it won't be troublesome and my neice hopefully can still jopefully play her old games.

I updated and I am and now am on 4.1E but when I insert the disc I get

"The system files are corrupted. Please refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."

Somehow, I don't think your modchip is 1.8 like you say it is. Try running the update disc in your region for 1.8, which can be found in that link I gave you. The other option is to just download a patched version of the iso.

The Mod chip was 1.8, the problem was that after updating the Wii to firmware 4.1E that it did not make the game multi regional how it was before when I was on version 3.x. I tried a PAL patched region ISO and the game worked. No errors reported so far.

I guess I need to start reading into what this patching involved and how I can do it myself in future.

But thanks for your help :)

Are you sure you did not semi-brick your Wii? At first you mentioned it was at 3.3U, now you say you updated to 4.1E. That's 2 different regions my friend, a no-no! 4.1 does not affect different region play. 12137 has led you astray, updating to 4.2 or 4.3 only affect other region play and does not do anything else to affect your modchip. If you find that other games are giving you problems you likely inadvertently changed the region of the system menu of your Wii from U to E. One of the fixes is to find a game with 4.2U update and run it. Google for a list of games with the update. Of course, the Wii might be fine. ---Chikn

We should be certain before ANY updating (Or accusing!). Try accessing your wii settings menu. If you can't you are semi-bricked, in which case you need to update of NTSC-U copy of

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Endless Ocean 2

I suggest that if you do update to 4.2, you look into softmodding your wii.
