Hey guys.
I accidentally semi-bricked my wii with an update on a PAL Sonic and Sega Allstars racing and I have a USA wii. I think I have the 4.2 menu version now. Before the update, it was 4.0u. I can still play games and stuff but I need to change settings to play online so if anyone can help me, that would be very useful. I also have HBC if that helps.
Thanks in advance.

if everything still works i suggest you back up your nand first of all. Then go download a working nand with 4.2 thats clean. Install that to see what happens.

Could you elaborate what Nand is, and how to do the things you mentioned? Btw, thanks for the reply!

Yes trying to restore someone elses nand will result in bootmii telling you keys do not match unsafe to continue, you would need to extract your key and modify the new nand with betwiin.
But MUCH easier is to use a little file "GC_controller brickfix"
Put it on sd card run via homebrew reinstall correct system menu then run settings fix,job done.:)
As the title says you will need a gamecube controller to run the fix
Any problems finding it PM me and i will give you a link

Use NUSD (make sure to tick the PACK--> WAD box) and download 4.2 firmware (your region) and install it using WAD Manager.
It is that simple.
NUSD is a PC Application you can use to download official Nintendo stuff. You can download it HERE.

Would be easier to just download the system menu using NUS and install using WAD Manager.

I would download 4.2 firmware. If you happen to be on 4.2 firmware installing a lower firmware can brick the system. So your best bet is to use NUSD to download system menu 4.2 firmware.
If you have a softmod you might have to resoftmod your system again. If so you can use the 4.2 softmod guide in my sig.
I would also recommend installing Priiloader so you can block game updates so this doesn't happen again.

I'm glad your wii was fixed, but PAL Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing only has 4.1E update, how did you get 4.2?

honestly, i didnt know which update i got, but i thought i had the 4.2 menu version now (sonic and sega being released recently). Either way,
updating through this method worked like a charm and unbricked my semi-bricked wii!! :)

Hi Larrylje! I have modded my Wii with a chip and am starting to worry that placing my 'original' games in will update my firmware and will brick my Wii. I notice you mention Priiloader above, if I install this will it stop updates being initiated by 'original' game disk insert? Thanks heaps for your help, if there is another thread I need to use please piont me in the right direction (only v new to this - thanks again)
