Hi, I looked around the first few pages for help but I couldnt get a good answer to solve my problem. I got a wii around dec 2007 with a wiikey 1 with the latest update. Right now it has the 4.1U update and I havent touched it for a year. I want to play Metroid other M so I brought it and made a back up but I want to know what I should to do play it cuz i heard it contains 4.3. I dont have any homebrew or w/e just a wiikey to play my backups. I read alot of softmodding and usb loader. Im not really quite sure how they work. I looked at some guides and im just lost cuz i see lots of iosXXX and so on. Im guessing this softmodding or usb loader is the way to go nowadays.
So I was wondering what I need to do to play Metroid other m and other future back ups.
You shouldn't need to update to run the game, all it needs is just the IOS it needs to run, however no one knows what it is yet. Of course to actually install it, you'd need to softmod the wii.
You are thinking about updating to 4.3, which is a bad idea, 4.3 kills the modchip's ability to play backups from any region, once you update, you'll only be able to play games in your region. I recommend softmodding on your current 4.1 firmware, the last safe firmware. Here is a guide: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs...od-any-wii.html
As for your other questions, HBC stands for The Homebrew Channel, the channel that runs all hombrew on your sd card. You shouldn't need to take out your modchip, since softmods don't affect hardmods (Modchips), but for now, you'll have to wait & see what Metroid's IOS is before you can install it.
