Hi, ive been out of wii game for a bit, looking to get back into it (super mario galaxy 2) been reading a bit and you need to be on 4.2, i have fully soft modded wii on 4.1 running games from external hdd, whats the safest way to update to 4.2.

There is nothing 'safe' about 4.2 it will literally delete all your softmods, don't upgrade to it if you can avoid it. If your looking to just play Super Mario Galaxy 2, just follow this if your using a disc:

There's nothing unsafe about updating to 4.2 either. You'll just need to reinstall homebrew channel and your cIOS's afterwards. It takes about 10 minutes to do and there's no permanent damage.

That said, there's no real need to update to 4.2. SMG2 works fine on 4.1 from an external drive. You shouldn't have to install anything extra to make it work.

cIOSX rev 19 is out, and it doesn't matter which ios is used in dop-mii. just make sure to have at least one pure, untouched ios; you need one for hackmii installer.

if HBC is flipped upside down when done, run the hackmii installer, uninstall and reinstall HBC. should be back to normal after.

sorry for being a complete noob i dont understand what you mean, do i not just run dop-mii and install ios 56.... what do you mean by untouched ios. and do i need to update to cios 19..

tried a few things now done the ios thing used different loaders.... is it possible that the iso is dodgy, ive noticed when using cfg loader there is no music when i select game and also when ve burned it to disk, it does not show in the disk channel.....

Hi,

Just piggybacking this thread and say that I too would like to upgrade to 4.2 to play Mario.

I am on 3.(something) and didn't upgrade to 4.1.

I don't use the homebrew channel or play other regions, my kids just play my backup games.

Can I just update via Nintendo update?
