How to update firmware to 4.0?

Hard-modded (d2pro9) wii with 3.3u (no softmod; no homebrew)

Recently got some new games like wii fit plus, sport resort etc.
None of them work. As I understand, they work in a 4.0 wii.

So, I want to know how to update the firmware from 3.3u to 4.0.
What is the easiest way?

I am not comfortable to do the update via wii as some said it may
brick the wii. Also, what is the current version? 4.2?

Just update online. It wont damage or hurt anything. Import games will no longer work without homebrew help, but if you're using all games that match your console's home region you won't even notice the difference.
