Hello guys
I softmodded my Wii yesterday, it was originally v 4.0E, softmodded to v 4.2, set up HBC no problem,installed clios v 14 ok, then tried to install region free -- got black screen with white text showing various dump errors frozen had to power off to reset but when turning back on no power at all - no lights etc
has anyone got any advice other than chuck it in the bin and buy a new one?

By region free do you mean Gecko? And if so then do you mean you were trying to install it via a wad file to the wii menu? If that is what you were doing then a crash there shouldn't have hurt anything.
Anyway, first thing I would try is unplugging ALL the wires from the wii and letting it sit for a couple hours. Sometimes you can get a surge in power that causes it to shut down for safety. Letting it sit with no cords connected will let the system reset.
If that doesn't work then try to restore from your NAND backup if you were able to install bootmii to boot2. Whatever guide you followed should have included that step, but if you couldn't install it to boot2 then it won't help you in this case.
Finally, if all else fails send it to nintendo for repairs. They really don't ask many questions about how things broke, and it is more affordable, even out of warranty, than buying a new one.
