IOS Patcher VS. WiiScrubber. How can I know which one to use?

I have checked the forums on questions that I've had about several games that I was backing up. I'm running a softmod 4.2 system, and have had no problems, except for a few games (MK-Armageddon, Red Steel, Medal of Honor 2, Red Steel 2, Wii Sports Resort). I have IOS Patcher and the Wii Scrubber. I've searched the forum for the problems that I faced on a couple of the games and ran into a couple of replies that suggested patching the ISO to 249, and others that recommended using the Scrubber to sxtract the .dol and then boot for the first time using alt. dol from the SD card. Could anyone tell me how to determine which program to use, and if there is anything that I can do to tell if the game should be patched or scrubbed before burning to disc and wasting one?

use configurable usb loader and a hard drive. you can tweak the settings without wasting discs, and you'll have better loading times.
