just softmodded the wii using larrys guide(great guide mate,your a legend!!)I installed bootmii as boot2 and made the nand backup and saved to the laptop.my question is when i remove the sd card the bootmii menu is gone.when everything else is installed the files can be removed from the sd card because they're on the system but is bootmii still installed on the system even though the menu does't show up without the sd card inserted? is it a case that if the wii does brick the sd card can be put back in along with the nand backup?sorry if this has been asked but couldn't find a thread with the answer.new to all this!!

The change has been made to your Wii's NAND. In order for BootMii to run, you need your sd card inserted. When you installed BootMii, it also wrote some files to your sd card which must be present at startup to run or else the wii boots into the regular system menu.

I got the exact same question.

But if I have installed bootmii as boot2 and made a NAND backup, then I don´t need the SD card to be plugged in all the time? It´s ok to just plug it in if my Wii should ever get bricked?

Why I´m asking is because everytime I start the Wii (and bootmii menu boots) I have to press the reset button on the console to start the normal Wii system menu.

Off course I can live with this but if I can skip this step it would be cool.

Yes, you can just remove the sd card and it will boot to the system menu and if you ever brick, just put the sd card back in and it will boot into BootMii.

You can also edit the bootmii.ini file on the sd card and make a change to the AUTOBOOT line.

If you want the system menu to boot, it should read AUTOBOOT=SYSMENU.

That is all in the readme in the hackmii installer, check it out.

Oh, had no idea about the .ini file. Thnx mate!

Edit: hmm, something wrong with this .ini? Shouldn´t it load Wii System Menu if the ini file look like this? Oh, perhaps I need to remove the "#" before "Autoboot"?

=====================================================

# BootMii config file

# Video mode, possible settings:
# NTSC, PAL50, PAL60, PROGRESSIVE
VIDEO=PROGRESSIVE

# Autoboot, possible settings:
# SYSMENU, HBC
#AUTOBOOT=SYSMENU

# Autoboot delay, in seconds:
# Default is 5
#BOOTDELAY=5

=====================================================

Also if I open the .ini file in notepad there are just one long line with all this info with a couple or squares here and there. Has anything gone wrong?

I would open it with Wordpad.

As well you need to delete the # from the line. # disables the line so it will not work.

Thanks for clearifying.

Also I opened it in Wordpad and in "Damn Nfo Viewer" and both showed the file correctly.

Thanks mate!
