Is CIOS needed for my Wiikey'd Wii?

Ok so I'm softmodding my (already wiikey'd ver. 3.4u) wii via the tut below and I'm at "3. GET A CIOS". Before I do, is this really necessary? I mean if I'm already chipped is this a needed step? I've been hearing some scary sh!t about CIOS. My goal is to get to 4.1 safely and to neogamma the hell out of Mario's new game. HELP!
