LG GDR-8164B, Wii backup and firmware..

Hi,
I was so lucky to find one of these and I bought it, to backup Wii games..

If I decide to make it region free, is there a firmware to do so, and will it still be able to read Wii games after flashing it?

Normally I use DVD Region Killer.. will it be enough.. and Wii still can be read?

I'm not sure about reflashing it because I've never done that. It probably doesn't matter since the drives can read wii games from any region already.

Of course that drive hasn't been needed to back up wii games for years now. Install a USB loader on the wii, pop a game in and press the + button. It will rip the game to any standard USB flash or hard drive and then you can play it directly off there.
