I plan to mod a wii here very soon.. i have not purchased one yet or anything like that.. i have modded xbox 360s before but never a wii.. anyone have any advice before i purchase my wii? is a hardware mod better dan a soft mod? any feedback would be deeply appreciate it...

Softmod is better. Softmodding has more features, is cheaper and easier.

I agree, softmodding also has more brick protection options than hard-mods.

Any wii can be modded. Just pick a guide and follow it step by step.

Just to add to that, if your wii is much newer you will need to use USB Loading, since newer wiis don't accept backup DVDs anymore.

ok thanks I will keep all of that in mind.. I'm thinking about ordering one from ebay so it will be a little bit older because usually an older system is easier to mod & I want to be able to play dvd back ups on my wii.

The steps are exactly the same if you softmod for DVD backups or a USB loader. There's just one extra step for USB loaders and that's actually installing the loader program, which just involves putting one more folder on the SD card.

As for playing backups from disks, I have an old wii from before homebrew became possible that still has a wiikey installed. But I haven't burned a disk in over a year. Putting the games on my hard drive is just easier.
