Mario Galaxy 2 Save and Quit problem

My issue is is that when I save and quit from Mario galaxy 2 game the game always reset the lives to 4. Last time I had 16 lives and I save and quit the game , and I ended loosing these lives. Somebody with the same problem?

That's how the last game was too. It doesn't save your lives. It always starts you with 4.

I know it's frustrating. The first time I played I went all the way through world 1 and got over 40 lives.
