Hey all! I'll be completely honest, I tend to tune into the scene, and then tune out for a little bit, so please be gentle. I'm still getting caught up on what all has changed.
I have a Hard-modded NTSC wii. It is currently running 3.2u with HBC. The modchip is a Wasabi v2, updated to the latest firmware (3.0). I was thinking about purchasing the new super mario brothers game, and the metroid prime collection, but I honestly am not sure what it would take to get them running.
I remember when MadWorld came out, I could simply install modded versions of the IOS as .wad files and I was good to go. Does this method work to bring me up to date to play SMB?
This is all before v4 of the dashboard came out so I don't know what is required to play what.
I enjoy being able to use .wad files, so I'd prefer not to lose the ability (hence still running 3.2u).
Any advice would really be appreciated. Thank you!

If you're buying legit copies of the games and have a modchip then you dont need to do anything special to play them. Just pop the disks in and let them update. You'll be able to play them without any issues.
The newer firmware will block the ability to install wad files and delete your homebrew channel, but you can restore all your homebrew functionality by softmodding. There are quite a few guides on how to do this, I generally recommend this one http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901
There are many benefits to softmodding now, including the ability to play your games directly from a USB hard drive or flash drive without having to burn or swap any disks.

By restore all homebrew functionality, does that include the ability to use/install WADs?
I do have some backups I'd like to be able to play, but its not a dealbreaker.

Will there be a conflict if I play a backup or original of Super Mario Smash Brothers while running the Twilight Princess Hack with the 002 fix? Also have Wiikey dc2 modchip installed. Running system 3.2u

You'll be able to play ALL games and use any wads you want.
And I don't understand your question 75aces. The twilight hack is ONLY a method for installing the homebrew channel. It's a hacked twilight princess save file. It can't conflict with anything.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate your help! It'd be great to get all of latest functionality again.

Hi everyone,
i've already searched a lot of forum with these questions but i cannot get a solid answer.
1. I have a hard mod wii, (i don't know what kind or what version), my question is, if I play the NSMB game, and for sure it will ask to do a system update, is it safe ? I dont have plans to use homebrew, etc. in the future.
2. If it's safe to update, can i still be able to play backup games on it?
Thank you in advace!

Yes, you're safe to update. Even if you update to 4.2 you will still be able to play backup games from your wii's home region. Out of region backups will be blocked on firmware 4.2, but that is the only difference you should see.

ok. thanks a lot dude. I have another question though, My wii is NTSC and it is semi-bricked due to a probably out of region backup. Will the NSMB update restore my system menu back? and when you say out of region will be blocked, do you mean, it would no longer accept out of region backups that it will no semi-brick my wii again?

So long as NSMB has a newer firmware than the current one on your wii and it is from the proper region then yes, it will fix the semi-brick.
And you're correct in thinking that blocking out of region backups will keep the wii from becoming semi-bricked again.
