my wii only plays gamecube games

I have a modded wii that used to play backups and originals ( gamecube and wii games) but now it will only play original gamecube games. It doesn't seem to like normal size discs but it will play gamecube size discs.
What could be the problem?

Uggghhh, of course Christmas is here and just the other day, this happened to our WII as well (it will ONLY play gamecube (sz?) games and NOT the wii games........
For Christmas my son got the Tony Hawk (WII) and we got the WII Fit Plus....
Anyone have ANY ideas?? We've already removed cover, cleaned out dust and cleaned off lens.........
